Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesSooners wear wristbands in support of Corey Wilson: Several Sooners wore new rubber wristbands during the scrimmage. The bands are red and blue, and on the front is the yellow Superman logo. The wristbands were a gift handed out by Sooner Corey Wilson, who watched from a wheelchair on the sideline. Wilson was paralyzed in a February car accident and has begun full rehab with hopes of walking someday. "It's tough, man," linebacker Travis Lewis said. "We have to keep his spirits up. We have to be strong for him." ( Tulsa World) Updated Depth Chart: The Oklahoman has updated their projected fall OU Depth Chart. Prospective recruits attend Red/White game: Dozens of high-profile recruits were in attendance, including at least three five-star prospects and more than a dozen four-star prospects, as rated by Rivals.com. Among the most coveted recruits in the stands was defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat of Plano, Texas (he was there with his father, former Dallas defensive end Jim Jeffcoat), wide receiver Darius White and quarterback Blake Bell -- already an OU verbal commitment. Tulsa Central running back DeMarco Cobbs, rated as the top overall player in Oklahoma, also was in Norman. "I think those guys have done a great job," last season's Heisman Trophy winner said. "They've come in and have to play against one of the best defensive lines in the country every day and they’re still having to learn. But in my opinion, they've done a great job protecting me this spring." Bradford also said the group was further along in digesting the no-huddle offense than last year's unit. Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesStatus of OU's kicking game: After practice on Thursday, OU coach Bob Stoops talked about the format for Saturday's Red / White Game at Memorial Stadium. It's hard to simulate fall kicking situations in the spring, but Stoops said the mind-set and urgency "can't be" the same. "You work different drills, still work it." Tulsa Union product Tress Way has taken over the punting duties (Mike Knall graduated) as well as the kickoff duties. Matt Moreland, last year's kickoff specialist, ''has some family issues he's working through," Stoops said. "But Tress is doing a really good job. Really punting the ball great. And all his field goals and all have been good, too." ( Tulsa World) Expect backup QBs to see plenty of action: Backup quarterback Landry Jones and Drew Allen will get a lot action Saturday. And it will be the first time either has seen significant action in front of a live crowd. Quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel said both are having good and bad days, but that's to be expected. "The thing about both of them is they have a great attitude in the meeting room and they want to get better every day," Heupel said. "When a bad play happens, they don't let it hurt the next play. They bounce right back." Wilson said he's been impressed by both.( Norman Transcript) Stoops tweaks OU's scoring system: Stoops said he's tweaked his confusing scoring system for the scrimmage -- so confusing, defensive coordinator Brent Venables said after last year's game, "Oh, there's a bunch of numbers up there. I was at a little bit of a loss whether to be happy or not." The score of last year's game was 69-40 with the Red team (first-team offense, second-team defense) beating the White (second-team offense, first team defense). "I got in trouble a year or so ago," Stoops said. "Defense intercepted a ball and ran it to the 1 or 2 and the offense scored the touchdown and they got 7 points. So we tweaked it as far as some things like that."( Tulsa World) Sooners eye Saturday's game: SoonerSports.com Sooners conclude spring football with Red-White game Saturday: The Oklahoma Daily Broyles ready to take lead: The Oklahoman Don't let roadwork block Oklahoma football fun: The Oklahoman The low down on Loadholt: Tulsa World Sooners' offensive line responded to Bob Stoops' bark: Star-Telegram Labels: Oklahoma Sooners, Quarterbacks, Red White Game, Spring Practice

Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesClayton continues to impress: Converted safety Keenan Clayton continued to make his push at strongside linebacker Saturday by playing, according to Stoops, every snap of the scrimmage. "Keenan Clayton did an excellent job," the coach said. "He's turning into a really solid player." Clayton made four tackles, picked up one of OU's six sacks and created one of the Sooners' three defensive touchdowns. (Tulsa World)Small crowd: The official attendance for yesterday's Red/White game was 23,306.
Coach Stoops impressed with corners play: Cornerback Brian Jackson and safety Sam Proctor also broke up a pair of passes and the offense’s lack of big plays. "I thought their positioning was great. I thought the corners were excellent," OU coach Bob Stoops said. "Guys like Sam Proctor had big days that really showed. They were in position all day and that’s pleasing to see as a coach." (Norman Transcript)Injury Report: Players who missed the scrimmage: Cornerback Quinton Carter (hamstring), defensive end Auston English (shoulder), linebacker Austin Box (elbow), wide receivers Ryan Broyles (collarbone) and Adron Tennell (knee), offensive tackle Duke Robinson (ankle), safety Nic Harris (shoulder), defensive end John Williams (heel) and tailbacks DeMarco Murray (knee) and Chris Brown (knee). (The Oklahoman)
Fan calls first offensive touchdown in scrimmage: [Shae] Farmer is the Carrollton, Ga., resident who won an auction to call four plays during Saturday's scrimmage. He didn't know exactly what play he wanted to call, but Farmer knew he wanted tight end Jermaine Gresham going deep. So the call came down from the coaches' box for a play-action pass. Quarterback Sam Bradford laid the ball out perfectly for Gresham to run under it and the tight end beat two defenders to the goal line for the first offensive touchdown of the game. In fact, it was the only offensive touchdown until a pair of scores in the final three minutes of the game. Farmer and his wife, Kimberly, had no interest in attending Saturday's game, though they planned to come to Norman at some point, maybe this fall. After hearing about the SoonerSports.com auction, the two decided to post a bid, joking with each other about how funny it would be if they won. And they did. But the $2,900 he paid to call four plays was only part of the battle. They still had to get to Oklahoma, a 13-hour drive from their Georgia home. "I crossed into Oklahoma state lines for the first time (Friday)," Farmer said. "This stadium is gorgeous. It's unreal. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience to even get over here and see something like this. You see it on TV, then you get here and it's everything you thought it could be. "It's well worth it." ESPN not scheduled to cover annual OU Red-White game: At the moment, ESPN has no plans to broadcast the Red-White spring game on April 12. But that has a chance of changing. ESPN and OU have had discussions, which could lead to an agreement to televise the game. ESPN has shown the Red-White game in 2003, 2006 and 2007. (The Oklahoman) Maybe ESPNU or ESPN2??

Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes
Murray leads the offense in Red-White game: In each of the first two scrimmages of the spring, redshirt freshman running back DeMarco Murray dazzled with his rushing and receiving ability। It was more of the same and then some Saturday at the Red/White Spring Game when 21,020 braved unseasonably cold temperatures at Gaylord Family -- Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Murray rushed four times for 103 yards and one touchdown as the offense out-scored the defense, 53-30, in a scoring system devised by the coaching staff. The offense, which wore the red uniforms, scored five touchdowns. "It was a good day for us," said OU head coach Bob Stoops. "DeMarco has been special all spring and he was good again today. There were some big plays and I think the fans probably enjoyed that. "We still have a lot of work to do, but I felt there were a lot of positives for us. We've seen some guys improve and we've also had a chance to see where it is that we need to get better." Through three scrimmages this spring, Murray has carried 29 times for 327 yards, an average of 11.3 per attempt. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. Entrance into the stadium will be available through Gates 1, 5, 7, 12. Red-White system: Offenses can score in traditional ways -- six points for a touchdown, three for a field goal -- and nontraditional ones as well. A play over 30 yards is good for two points, while a first down is good for one. Defenses can keep up by earning three points for a turnover and nine if the turnover is returned for a touchdown. Third-down stops are worth one point and fourth-down stops two, with a three-and-out series resulting in two as well. (Tulsa World)
