Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesIbiloye like the hairstyle: Free safety Joseph Ibiloye got everyone's attention at South Garland's signing ceremony just by removing his baseball cap. Ibiloye had the "OU" logo sheared into his hair on the back of his head. "I wasn't going to do it," said Ibiloye, who signed with Oklahoma, "but I was talking to my barber and just threw my hat down and said, 'Let's do it.'" Ibiloye's teammates ribbed him about having to shave the logo off before school started, since attention-getting hairstyles are against school policy. (Dallas Morning News)Coaches on the theatrics at signing ceremonies: Muskogee's Stacy McGee and Jameel Owens announced together, with McGee picking up an OU cap and placing it on his head, leaving Owens to pick up an OSU cap, only to pull an OU cap from inside the Cowboy cap. "Some of these kids, you want to slap 'em once they sign,” Barry Switzer said on Jones' radio show Wednesday. It all gets silly, which made Guthrie's Kye Staley a throwback Wednesday when he simply walked into his ceremony wearing an OSU cap. "I wouldn't say it bothers me,” Bob Stoops said of theatrics at recruiting announcements. "It's not my kid, not my young man. But you kind of set yourself up in those situations.” (The Oklahoman)Where OU Ranks Nationally

Box enrolls early at OU: The Plainsmen standout will enroll in Norman on Jan. 16. In the final analysis, Austin Box simply couldn't wait. After going back and forth and back again, Enid's All-America senior linebacker has decided to enroll early at the University of Oklahoma and begin his college football career seven months early. "He felt like, 'I really want to play football,' " said Box's father, Craig. "He's always been that way. I think he figured, why wait?" Box, a scholar-athlete, has enough credits to be considered a high school graduate and is thus eligible to begin undergraduate studies when classes resume at OU on Jan. 16. In fact, Craig Box said, he already has 14 college hours from a concurrent enrollment program at Northern Oklahoma College. (Tulsa World)

Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesStoops lets Michigan know not playing Conference Championship hurts: Coach Bob Stoops on voting Florida number two in the Coaches poll over Michigan... From NewsOK.com"It was simple for me," Stoops said. "I voted Florida two, Michigan three, for the reasons that I felt their strength of schedule -- which I have always believed should be a major factor -- I believe was more difficult. "And they played an extra game in the SEC Championship against another really good football team, on top of their schedule. I'd like to see everyone have to play a championship game. In the end, I thought the extra game is another proving ground and that along with their strength of schedule, I thought they deserved it." Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesAP Pollster removed after mistaken Oklahoma vote: A voter for The Associated Press college football poll was removed from the poll board Wednesday because he mistakenly thought Oklahoma had lost to Texas Tech and voted the Sooners lower in this week's rankings. Jim Kleinpeter of The Times-Picayune of New Orleans said he tried to find the score of the Oklahoma game, but was unable to do so. AP sports editor Terry Taylor said: "We understand mistakes can happen, but we thought this one could have been prevented. The heart of the matter here is the credibility of the poll." (AP/ESPN.com)Oklahoma defense near preseason expectations after slow start? The Sooners have improved dramatically, leading the Big 12 in scoring defense, pass defense and total defense. Nationally, OU ranks in the top 25 in each of those categories. "We were awful close early in the year to playing like we are now, to playing like we're expecting ourselves to," Bob Stoops said. "We would have some certain individuals in certain areas break down, that's not (Venables') fault. "As much as you would always like to take the blame, sometimes guys are in position. They need to be able to step up and do it. "I think Brent has worked with our guys in a great way the entire year. It's showed for many, many weeks now. We're playing like we thought all along we were capable of. Some thought we were blowing smoke, but we're decent." "We were talking about him as far back as the Middle Tennessee game," OU offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Tuesday. "'Should we get him in?' The main reason we held on some of those guys is the games got so short, we just didn't think we needed the substitution as much. We just said, 'Hey, let's hold it.' " (NewsOK.com)AP Voter Error: Jim Kleinpeter, a writer at the New Orleans Times Picayune, admitted Tuesday he sent in his ballot Sunday morning thinking the Sooners had lost to Texas Tech on Saturday night. He had OU ranked 15th last week but dropped the Sooners to 24th this week despite their 34-24 win over Texas Tech. OU is 16th in the poll this week, five points behind Auburn, which Kleinpeter voted at No. 8 because he thought the Tigers had beaten Georgia when they lost 37-15. "I was in the press box after the LSU game that night and I remember . . . asking somebody, Did Oklahoma get beat? and somebody said 'Yes.' When I woke up the next morning, I rushed through my stuff and when I looked in the paper, I didn't see the score. It was still in my head that they lost. "It was an honest mistake. I'm going to correct it next week." (Tulsa World)Thompson frustrated with slow climb in Polls: While upsets ruled the college landscape a week ago, the Sooners rose just one spot in both the AP and coaches polls. "That is frustrating," OU quarterback Paul Thompson said. "It's unfortunate that there are some teams ahead of us that I don't think should be. "Hopefully, in the end, if we take care of what we need to take care of, people will recognize that and put where we need to be." (NewsOK.com)
