2009 OU Pro Day

Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes

Find University of Oklahoma Pro Day results here.

Manny Johnson held out of Pro Day: Wide receiver Manny Johnson did not participate at Pro Day after recently re-injuring his hamstring. Johnson also injured the hamstring at the Combine during receiving drills, which prevented him from testing there, either. (The Oklahoman)

Former Sooners at Pro Day: A handful of ex-Sooners now in the NFL -- C.J. Ah You of St. Louis, Larry Birdine of Tennessee and Reggie Smith of San Francisco among them -- watched the workouts and remembered what a stressful time it was. "The real stress was the combine, because you're up from morning to night, then you've got to get up and perform and you're tired, you're on your feet," Ah You said. (Tulsa World)

Habern receives NCAA medical redshirt: As expected, Oklahoma center Ben Habern learned late last week that he has received a medical redshirt for last season, and will still have four years of eligibility remaining. Habern, who at the moment is working with the first-team offensive line, suffered a broken toe at Baylor and missed the rest of last season. (The Oklahoman)

Owens to return after spring break: Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said wide receiver Jameel Owens did some running during Tuesday's practice, but won’t be full go in practice until after spring break. Owens, who injured his ankle prior to the start of spring practice, is expected to compete for playing time this spring and next season.(The Oklahoman)

Former Sooners Work Out Today

Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes

Kelly, Smith among others participating in pro work out: Today at OU's Everest Indoor Training Center in his first and only workout before NFL scouts, Kelly will have the opportunity to silence the questions about his health for good. "I just have to show them with my drills, my change of direction, that I have no knee problems," said Kelly, speaking publicly for the first time about the rumors, which likely started with Kelly tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in junior high and later having arthroscopic knee surgery after his sophomore season at OU. "I've been working so that tomorrow morning I can come out here and prove them wrong and shut everybody up. I guarantee they won't be saying I have knee problems (anymore)." Former Sooner defensive back Reggie Smith, who's been recovering from a broken big toe, will also be working out in front of scouts for the first time. (The Oklahoman) Joe Jon Finley and Allen Patrick will also participate in today's work out.

Results will be posted later this afternoon. (UPDATED)

(3/12) Post OU Pro Day Articles and Notes

Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes

Quote of the Day: "You made yourself a lot of money today," a scout telling Curtis Lofton.

Malcolm Kelly expected to workout April 9: Wide receiver Malcolm Kelly didn't work out because he's still recovering from a strained thigh muscle. He and Reggie Smith (broken toe in the Big 12 championship game) will work out for scouts at OU on April 9. Kelly said skipping his senior year wasn't a hard decision. "When I heard (first round), there's too much to chance it to come back," he said. "OU's going to win with Malcolm Kelly or without Malcolm Kelly. They're going to win Big 12 championships with me or without me. I would have loved to have been a part of it, but this team is a whole lot bigger than me." (Tulsa World)

Former Sooners attend Pro Day: Several ex-OU standouts now on NFL rosters came to pro day to visit with former coaches and cheer on old teammates. That list included defensive end Larry Birdine (Broncos), wide receiver Mark Clayton (Ravens), linebacker Clint Ingram (Jaguars) and wide receiver Travis Wilson (Browns). Former running back Renaldo Works, safety Jason Carter and offensive lineman Chris Messner were also in attendance. (The Oklahoman)
