Miami defeats Oklahoma, 21-20: Jacory Harris survived a shaky start to throw three touchdown passes, Javarris James ran for a career-high 150 yards against the nation's top rush defense, and No. 17 Miami knocked off No. 8 Oklahoma, 21-20, on Saturday night. With Sam Bradford, Oklahoma's reigning Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback watching from the sideline because of a right shoulder injury, Miami (3-1) scored 21 consecutive points to take control. John Tamanaha, NBCSports.com
No matter who the quarterbacks are on either side - OU coach Bob Stoops says Bradford will not start - this game will come down to defense. With that in mind, we need to side with the Sooners, who lead the nation in rushing defense, total defense and tackles for losses... Oklahoma over Miami, 27-17

Since losing to USC in the 2005 Orange Bowl, Oklahoma has gone 16-13 in games played outside of the state of Oklahoma, and 29-0 around home. Last week was an aberration. At home, in a game like this, the Cane defense will be flying around all over the place making life tough for Jones, there will be at least three key takeaways, and Harris will go back to being Harris again for just enough scoring drives to get by. It's not going to be a smooth win for the Canes, but it'll be a good one... Miami over Oklahoma, 20-16

Though Miami is playing at home, this might not be the best week to see a hot Oklahoma team. After a season-opening loss to BYU, the Sooners have responded with a 64-0 blowout of Idaho State and a 45-0 thrashing of Tulsa with Landry Jones at quarterback.... Oklahoma over Miami, 28-17

All Grass at LandShark: Ground crews at LandShark Stadium have re-sodded the field and replaced the baseball diamond with a full field of grass in preparation for Saturday's night game. Not only home to the Hurricanes, the multi-sport facility is home to the NFL's Miami Dolphins and MLB's Florida Marlins. The dirt had been a concern of Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, saying the Sooners were looking at different cleats.
UM's Phillips to Play? Miami's second leading tackler, Randy Phillips, is looking more likely to play Saturday after practicing with the team on Wednesday. Phillips, who injured his forearm, left late in the first half against Virginia Tech. Miami coach Randy Shannon said of Phillips: "[This game] means more to him because of situations he was put in a couple of years ago [when] they got a couple of passes on him."
No Tweeting Policy: Bob Stoops said this week at his weekly press conference, he asked his players after practice on Monday if any of them owned a Twitter account. "None raised their hand," Stoops said. Although, that didn't stop Stoops from addressing the issue of tweeting or discussing private team information with others. Unlike, Texas Tech or the NFL, where players tweet too-much info the Sooners have had their problems with leaks the old-fashion way. Stoops said, if anyone wants to discuss team information with others or tweet during halftime they could do it elsewhere. Labels: Oklahoma Sooners, OU-Miami

Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford continued to practice with OU's first team offense Monday, furthering speculation Bradford might play Saturday against No. 17 Miami, although no decision has been made about Bradford's status, coach Bob Stoops said.
"It will be determined on how we go through the week, on how he performs, on how he feels," Stoops said.
Last weekend, Sam Bradford, the Oklahoma Heisman Trophy winning quarterback seeked the opinion from world-renowned sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews.
Meanwhile, Miami coach Randy Shannon said they will prepare for the Oklahoma offense and not either Sam Bradford or Landy Jones.
The No. 8 Sooners travel to Miami play the Hurricanes Saturday 7:00 p.m./CT on ABC.

"Progressing," the Sooner coach said when asked about his quarterback's recovery since suffering a separated shoulder Sept. 5. "All his rehab to this point has been positive." Stoops confirmed Bradford had gone to Birmingham, Ala., over the weekend to visit renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. The physician's opinion wasn't any different from the ones the quarterback has received from OU's medical staff. "It was an extra opinion as much as anything. Stoops was asked whether he's confident Landry Jones could lead the Sooners to a road win at Miami. "If it is Landry he's handling it really well," Stoops said. "He's been nothing but consistent and solid. More than anything it's the players around him the past couple of weeks have played better. Regardless of who's in that position the players around him have to support that position. "You have to protect him. You have to be able to run the ball. Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes
Sam Bradford named Walter Camp player of the week: Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford has been named the national offensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Foundation. Bradford was honored for his play in OU's 51-13 win over Miami. The redshirt freshman from Oklahoma City completed 19-of-25 passes for 205 yards and a school record five touchdowns (tied) with no interceptions in Oklahoma's convincing non-conference victory. The TD passes tied a record for the most ever allowed by Miami. Just one week earlier, the Hurricanes' defense picked off four passes in a win over Marshall. Three of Bradford's touchdown throws went to Malcolm Kelly from 23, 24 and 30 yards. He also threw a six-yarder to Jermaine Gresham and a nine-yarder to Dane Zaslaw. Bradford hit his first four passes of the game to extend his string of consecutive completions to 22, an OU record and just two shy of the NCAA mark. Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes
Sooners win big over Canes: By the time Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford threw his school record-tying fifth touchdown pass, the bad memories from past Miami games were long gone. Malcolm Kelly caught three of Bradford's TD passes and Reggie Smith returned a fumble for a score as the No. 5 Sooners rolled over Miami 51-13 in their first meeting since the Hurricanes swept three games in the 1980s. "That didn't matter," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said. "It makes for a good story, but that's a long time ago." (SoonerSports.com) Patrick early exit: Starting running back Allen Patrick came out of the game after the first two carries of the second half and never returned. Coach Bob Stoops said Patrick, a senior who missed last week's season opener against North Texas with a sprained right ankle, didn't return because he was experiencing some minor cramping. (Dallas Morning News) Moving Up: Malcolm Kelly's three touchdowns give him 17 for his career, tying Carrollton Creekview-ex Travis Wilson for second on OU's all-time career list. (Dallas Morning News) In the books: (Sam) Bradford's five TD passes against Miami tied the OU single game record. He became just the third Sooner to toss five touchdowns in a game. Jason White accomplished the feat three times, while Josh Heupel did it twice. Bradford was also just the second QB to throw for five TDs against the Hurricanes (Cade McNown, UCLA, 1998). Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes Coach Randy Shannon not concerned about OU-Miami past: Coach Randy Shannon is taking a completely different approach. He could care less what the Miami teams he played on did to the Sooners two decades ago. "Those guys I played with, I love them, but I have to let those times go," Shannon said. "This is a new team, a new start, fresh faces. I mean, it ain't Barry Switzer. It ain't Jimmy Johnson. It's Randy Shannon and Bob Stoops. It ain't Troy Aikman and Jamelle Holieway. It ain't Steve Walsh in the game. "I don't mean any disrespect for what's happened in the past, but this is an ABC [TV] game. We should have nationwide coverage, and that's the thing that everyone needs to be talking about. It's an opportunity for everyone in America to see two great teams play on Saturday." (Orlando Sentinel)OU-Miami schemes similar to each other: OU and Miami run very similar schemes on offense and defense. "It helps because our defense is very much the same way," center Jon Cooper said. "They do a lot of stunts, a lot of twists. They'll max blitz. They'll cover zero and bring seven guys. "I had committed to Oklahoma State when I was a senior in high school," Aikman said. "My second-to-last recruiting trip, I told Jimmy I was coming (to Miami), but I wanted to take the last trip of recruiting weekend to OU and see what it was all about. I did that and decided to go to Oklahoma. Broke my leg against Miami while Jimmy was coaching there. And then when I was transferring, Jimmy was recruiting me in Miami but I decided to go to UCLA. "(In 1989) I'm getting drafted by the Cowboys and I find out that 'some guy from Arkansas' (Jerry Jones) had bought the team from Bum Bright and was going to hire Jimmy Johnson as the head coach. And I'm thinking to myself, 'Good gosh, I can't get away from this guy. Then next thing I know, Jimmy is leaving and they say Barry Switzer is coming in to coach and I say, 'Man, here we go again.' (Tulsa World)OU's crowd no worry for 'Canes: Oklahoma drew 84,472 fans to its season-opening 79-10 victory against North Texas on Saturday, marking the football team's 50th consecutive sellout. If the same number of fans attending last week's opener show up to Memorial Stadium for Saturday's game against Miami, it will rank as the eighth-largest crowd ever to see a UM game. Miami is 8-2 all-time playing before the 10 largest audiences in school history. Each of those games has been played on the road or in a neutral site. UM coach Randy Shannon scoffed at the notion that his players will be affected by the crowd on Saturday, no matter how big it is. "It won't be a shock," Shannon said. "Some of these (UM players) are from Texas. They've played in big games before in Dallas (with) 30,000 or 40,000 fans screaming. Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesVenables on Miami's QB Kirby Fressman: "Kirby is very fast and athletic,” (Brent) Venables said. "You'd much rather play a guy like Chris Simms back there who isn't comfortable running the ball.” (NewsOK.com)By the numbers: Eight OU players made their first career starts and 64 saw action. (Dallas Morning News)Bobby Jack Wright impressed with English: OU sacked the Mean Green QB six times. "Our pressure was good all night, especially from the defensive ends," Wright said. "Auston English, Alonzo Dotson, John Williams, they were all really active." Asked if English is the quickest defensive end Wright has seen in his nine years at OU, Wright wasn't ready to go that far. "I don't know that he's the quickest, but he's in that class with the Dan Codys and the Jonathan Jacksons," Wright said. "He really does have a great first step. (NewsOK.com)Brown, Patrick expected to play Miami: Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said (Allen) Patrick, Chris Brown and redshirt freshman DeMarco Murray would play at RB against Miami. (Dallas Morning News)Coach Stoops impression of Miami: "Just a good solid football team. As you watch them, like always, you see a lot of physical, good-looking players who play hard. A lot of speed and they're coached well. They're in position. Just what you usually see when you watch a good Miami team." (Palmbeachpost.com)
Coach Stoops on memories of past OU-Miami games: "I remember watching them back in the mid-80s. They were great teams with great players all over the place, great coaches. They were great games for sure. Both teams, between the two of them, there's not a lot of losses there." Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesFormer Canes' Coach Coker expects unrank Miami to challenge OU: [You] ask Larry Coker, and unranked Miami still possesses one key element that will be dangerous for the eighth-ranked Sooners in their second-week game Sept. 8. "They'll have talent," said Coker, Miami's coach since 2001 until he was fired after last season. "I don't think there's any doubt they're being overlooked. "I think you're going to see a very good Miami team come to Oklahoma." (NewsOK.com)Wilson on Bradford's first start: Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson on red shirt freshman Sam Bradford. "We've talked about how they need to manage or take care of the ball. But in taking care of the ball, you need to be not so afraid of taking care of the ball that you don't take the shots that are there, and you don't live on the edge and you don't dare greatly. But if you don't take that first step, the bird's still sitting in the nest. So you need to not be afraid to fly, but you need to be ready to fly when it's time. It'll be interesting Saturday to see. Because we won't know until Saturday and it's for real and the clock's on, the lights and the fans and let's go play."
