While I was away on vacation a couple news items occurred and worthy to take note.
Chaisson joined the Sooners officially: Justin Chaisson last month had multiple felony charges -- including coercion with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon -- pleaded down to gross misdemeanors. On Thursday, OU released a statement that read, in part, "all allegations of the use of any weapon have been dismissed and are not the basis of any charge against or plea by him." Chaisson was on the team's official roster as of Thursday. (Tulsa World)

Justin Johnson transfers to Texas JUCO: Justin Johnson was supposed to be part of a five-man rotation at running back this season after playing sparingly as a freshman in 2008. Johnson, a native of Gilmer, Texas, who is the younger cousin of former OU wide receiver Manny Johnson, was rated the No. 2 running back in the country coming out of high school by one recruiting Web site. Thursday, Johnson told the Tyler, Texas, radio station KTBB that he plans to transfer to Abilene (Texas) Christian, a Division II university in the Lone Star Conference. "Right now, we anticipate him transferring, which is fine," Stoops said. "We'll give him a full release and wish him the best. "Certain guys seek certain things, and he feels that's best for him. We want it for him as well." (The Oklahoman)
Milwood's Trayvon Henry commits to Oklahoma: Oklahoma didn't go too far to pick up its latest football commitment Thursday night, when Soonerscoop.com reported Oklahoma City Millwood linebacker Trayvon Henry had pledged. Henry, rated by Rivals.com among the top 15 insider linebackers in the nation and the top 20 Oklahoma prospects overall, is the 12th player to commit to OU in the current recruiting class. With a plea agreement Wednesday, Justin Chaisson avoided jail time for assaulting his ex-girlfriend and pleaded no contest to four misdemeanors (reduced from felony charges). Chaisson was sentenced to 3-years probation and ordered to serve 120 hrs of community service. In April, Chaisson was ordered to complete one year of domestic violence counseling. Since the story broke Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has yet to officially comment on Chaisson's status with the Oklahoma football program.
With all that said and University of Oklahoma's previous track record with athletes who have questionable backgrounds --- Should OU pull Chaisson's scholarship?
In a previous poll, you guys overwhelming supported Bob Stoops decision (4-to-1) to pull Josh Jarboe's scholarship.
OU recruit Justin Chaisson placed on three years probation: Former Bishop Gorman standout football player Justin Chaisson, 18, pleaded no contest Wednesday morning to four gross misdemeanors stemming from a March attack on his ex-girlfriend of four years. The charges include two counts of false imprisonment, one count of conspiracy to commit coercion and one count of malicious destruction of property. District Judge Stefany Miley of Department 23 accepted the terms of Chaisson's plea agreement, sentencing him to a maximum of three years probation, 120 hours of community service and a restitution fee of a later determined amount. The agreement also restricts any contact between Chaisson and the victim and one witness of the crime, both of whom are female classmates of his. According to Chaisson's lawyer, Michael Cristalli, the ruling will not have an effect on Chaisson's athletic scholarship from Oklahoma University which he had accepted before the incident. "He's still going to Oklahoma," Cristalli said. "We were working in conjunction with Oklahoma with these negotiations to make sure they would be comfortable with him going to the university and participating in the program." Felony charges against Justin Chaisson could drop to misdemeanors: Former Bishop Gorman football standout Justin Chaisson is one step closer to pursuing his gridiron dreams at the University of Oklahoma. Chaisson pleaded no contest Wednesday to one count of misdemeanor coercion and one count of misdemeanor domestic battery stemming from an alleged attack on his ex-girlfriend, during which Chaisson allegedly threatened to kill the young woman with a screwdriver after violently forcing her into his car. Judge Melissa Saragosa of Las Vegas Justice Court Department 4 sentenced Chaisson to one year of domestic violence counseling. Chaisson, who also faces three felony charges from the screwdriver incident, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning and will proceed straight to the Eighth Judicial District Court. If Judge Miley accepts Chaisson's misdemeanor pleas, then all of the felony charges will be dropped. (Las Vegas Sun)
Restraining order charge dropped against Chaisson: Former Bishop Gorman football star Justin Chaisson did not appear in front of Judge Eric Goodman Thursday morning in Clark County District Court for a protective order hearing. But the presence of Chaisson's lawyer, Michael Cristalli, was all the University of Oklahoma football recruit needed to avoid a misdemeanor charge of violating a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend. When no representative for the plaintiff showed in the courtroom, Judge Goodman dismissed the case. "It's dissolved, that's it," Cristalli said while exiting the courtroom. (Las Vegas Sun)
Justin Chaisson arrested; faces multiple charges: A standout football player from Bishop Gorman High School made his first court appearance Thursday after his arrest on several felonies that stem from an attack on his ex-girlfriend. Justin Chaisson, an 18-year-old senior who has received a full scholarship to football powerhouse Oklahoma, is scheduled to return to Las Vegas Justice Court on April 29 for a preliminary hearing. "Certainly this is a difficult period of time for him and his family, and we intend to defend the charges and work toward a resolution," said his lawyer, Michael Cristalli. Cristalli said Chaisson, whose grandfather once owned Chaisson Motor Cars in Las Vegas, was arrested in his vehicle Tuesday afternoon "without incident" and was released on bail that evening. Chaisson faces three felonies: assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and coercion. He also faces a gross misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor charge of battery constituting domestic violence. The charges stem from a March 17 incident that began at Bishop Gorman. According to a Las Vegas police report, witnesses reported that Chaisson and his ex-girlfriend exchanged words in the parking lot before Chaisson followed the 17-year-old girl to a coffee shop at 6105 S. Fort Apache Road. After the incident, according to the report, the girl's stepfather met with Chaisson and his father, Jim. "Mr. Chaisson mentioned that he has his son in anger management classes tomorrow, March 18, 2009," the report states. "Mr. Chaisson also mentioned that his son has 53 days left in town before going to Oklahoma University for a football scholarship."(More at Las Vegas Review-Journal)
