Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes Aggies' Franchione can't resist his OU jokes: The Houston Chronicle reported that [Dennis] Franchione, while speaking to the Hous ton Touchdown Club and breaking down the Big 12's South Division race, couldn't resist jabbing the Sooners when he talked about their uncertainty at quarterback. "That may be the only question they have . . . other than what jobs they are going to work this year," Franchione said. "That is a joke; I couldn't resist." Franchione's "joke" was in reference to Stoops kicking two players off the team last summer when he learned they had accepted money for work not completed at a Norman car dealership. He [Bob Stoops] acknowledged that at this time last August, he felt like someone had slugged him in the gut when he learned Bomar and offensive lineman J.D. Quinn had lied about their employment at the car dealership. "A year ago, I didn't have a hand in it," Stoops said of NCAA rules that were broken. "But it tugs at you . . . that it reflects on you in such a negative way when it wasn't you. That part is hard. "But now I feel like a million bucks." Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes
Top 25 match-up: Saturday's game will be the first between AP Top 25 teams at Kyle Field since the Oklahoma-Texas A&M match-up in 2004. Oklahoma, then No. 2, beat No. 22 A&M 42-35 after being down by 14 points on three occasions.
A Sooners' Commitment breaks National Record: Heritage Hall senior Jimmy Stevens set the national high school record for career field goals on Friday night. Stevens kicked a 26-yarder in the second quarter during the Chargers' district game against Bethel in Oklahoma City. The field goal was the 49th of Stevens' career. He passed previous record holders Brian Bond of Hacienda Heights, Calif., and Tomas Sanchez of Arlington Heights, Texas. The game was stopped after the record-setting kick as school officials honored Stevens, who has orally committed to the University of Oklahoma. (NewsOK.com)Franchione excited about spotlight: To hear Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione, the Sooners will have a lot to contend with tonight. "I'll bet that I will not have seen Kyle Field like we're going to see it Saturday night since I've been here," Franchione said last week, "and I've seen it pretty good sometimes. I have a feeling Saturday night's going to be special." Might any of that have to do with ESPN's College GameDay presence in College Station? "It's neat to be at the center of the college football universe for a day," Franchione said. "But you know, these are frills. They're just extra benefits. We've got to stay focused on what we have to do to get this team ready to play." (Tulsa World)OU faces chore in A&M option: Norman Transcript
