Kenney to Start; Owens on Scout Team

Cameron Kenney to star again at WR: Junior-college transfer Cameron Kenney will make his second consecutive start at wide receiver this weekend against Tulsa, receivers coach Jay Norvell confirmed. Kenney also started last weekend in place of Adron Tennell, and had a 15-yard catch on a slant route. But another reason why Kenney is getting the nod is because of how he blocked in the run game against Idaho State. "I enjoy blocking. It helps out the run and then opens up the pass game," Kenney said. "By the time you're ready to run a route, the defender is concerned with just being blocked. So I think blocking is probably my strongest attribute right now." (The Oklahoman)

Other WR news; Owens on OU's scout team: Sophomore wideout Jameel Owens in back practicing with the team after being suspended for the Idaho State game for skipping practice and meetings last week. But Owens is no longer working with the regular offense. Instead, he's currently practicing with the scout team.(The Oklahoman)

Kenney to See Playing Time

JUCO star Cameron Kenney to play: Once the rage of preseason camp, Oklahoma's Cameron Kenney didn't get a look at wide receiver in last week's loss to BYU. "It's hard to play in a no-huddle offense and play at a high tempo if you've never been on the field in a game," position coach Jay Norvell said, noting Kenney is a junior college transfer adjusting to OU's offense. "We wanted to give him an extra week of practice. But he's been doing really well and working hard." After watching his receivers struggle to catch, compete, route-run and block against BYU, Norvell is ready to give Kenney a shot Saturday against Idaho State. "Cameron Kenney will definitely play," he said, "and play a lot." (Tulsa World)

Norvell: Oklahoma WRs played 'average': Junior Brandon Caleb led Oklahoma in receiving against BYU, despite having only 57 yards on four catches, both career highs. His output was lower than any leading receiver in the entire 2008 season. "I thought it was pretty average effort by our guys," said receivers coach Jay Norvell, who was complimentary of Caleb. "I'm not down on anybody, but we've got to play better." (The Oklahoman)

JUCO Transfer at Punter?

Cameron Kenney impresses OU coaching staff on special teams: After Oklahoma's opening practice last week, junior college transfer Cameron Kenney showed coaches why he was named his conference's special teams player of the year two years ago. "Cameron, I saw for the first time (Thursday) punting and kicking. What a talented guy," coach Bob Stoops said. "He was bombing some of those punts." While Kenney's primary focus will remain at wide receiver, he should be a huge all-around addition to OU's special teams, which weren't always special last season. "He's a guy that can really run with it; he's a guy that can give you something extra if you snap it to him, he can pull it down and run with it," Stoops said, referring to Kenney's potential as a fake punt or field goal option. "He's got a good leg, so we'll keep working him, probably with punting more than anything." (The Oklahoman)
