Matt Allen considers transferring to OU, OSU or Texas A&M: LSU offensive lineman Matt Allen has been granted a release to transfer to another school. Last week, Allen told Rivals.com that he is considering transferring to either OU, Oklahoma State or Texas A&M. Allen, who claims he has talked to coaches from all three schools, said he hopes to enroll somewhere by the end of the summer. Allen was a redshirt freshman this past season and will have two years remaining of eligibility after he sits out the 2008 season. (The Oklahoman)

Granger, Harris, English named to Nagurski watch list: Oklahoma football players Auston English, DeMarcus Granger and Nic Harris are among 88 players selected for the preseason Bronko Nagurski watch list for defensive player of the year. English, a junior defensive end from Canadian, Texas, led the Big 12 in quarterback sacks last season despite missing three games with a fractured ankle. Granger, a junior defensive tackle from Dallas, had 35 tackles last season, his first as a starter, and had 3.5 quarterback sacks in 13 games before a shoplifting arrest two days before the Fiesta Bowl got him suspended for the game. Harris, a senior safety from Alexandria, La., was All-Big 12 last season, when he had 74 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. He is recovering from offseason knee surgery and missed all of spring practice. The Sooners have had two previous Nagurski winners: Roy Williams in 2001 and Derrick Strait in 2003. (Tulsa World)

University of Oklahoma Board of Regents honor Bradford, Lofton and Robinson: Last Thursday, the OU Board of Regents approved a resolution honoring the Sooners for their accomplishments last season. Among the individual achievements noted in the resolution included: OU's fifth Big 12 title; the school's 30th 10-plus win season; Sam Bradford's setting of an NCAA freshman record for touchdown passes with 36; Curtis Lofton and Duke Robinson earning consensus All-America honors; and the school setting a school-record for attendance in 2007 by averaging 84,858 fans a game. Receiving the resolution were offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson and offensive lineman Sherrone Moore. The Regents also honored the men's and women's gymnastics teams. (The Oklahoman)

Backup QB Keith Nichol to transfer after all: Keith Nichol's career at Oklahoma is over. Nichol, the former all-state quarterback at Lowell High School, announced Friday morning that he has left the University of Oklahoma after just one year. He completed his final exams this week and drove back to West Michigan on Friday. Nichol, a 6-foot-2, 204-pound signal caller, played in three games with the Sooners. He rushed for eight yards and completed his only pass in his debut against North Texas. He also saw action against Utah State and Tulsa. He finished his freshman season having completed 2 of 7 passes for a total of 15 yards. He rushed for 13 yards on three carries. "It was a really tough decision," Nichol said Friday morning. "I love OU and the people there, but you can't stay there for the people. I had to leave there for me. I look at it as a missed opportunity, but not everything works out the way you plan. "This has been on my mind for a while. When it came down to it, I couldn't go to practice if I was thinking about transferring. I had to make a decision and go with it." If he transfers to another Division I school, Nichol will have to sit out the 2008 season. He could practice with a team next season but would not be eligible to play Division I football until the 2009 season. He said Friday that he plans to take a long look at all of his options. "I am looking to transfer to a school with a good situation, one that fits my style. I am going to look for the best opportunity," Nichol said. "Maybe I cheated myself in the recruiting process the first time. "I didn't look at all of my options completely," he said. "Now I am trying to look at everything. Having been involved in big-time college football for a while now, I understand things better." Nichol, who was a marketing major at Oklahoma, was waiting until exams were finished and he returned home before contacting other college football programs. (Grand Rapids Press)

Oklahoma football team above the national average in Academic Progress Rate: Three Big 12 programs and two teams at Texas State are losing scholarships after being hit Tuesday with NCAA penalties for poor academic performance. The Texas football team had an APR of 942, down from 944 a year ago but tied with Oklahoma for tops in the Big 12. Nationwide, the UT team ranked above average. The APR is designed to track student-athletes' progress toward graduation. A perfect score of 1,000 would mean that all team members are academically eligible. Students who lose eligibility count against a team, as do those who transfer in poor academic standing. Three Big 12 programs that scored below 880 -- Iowa State basketball (861), Texas Tech baseball (864) and Oklahoma State baseball (877) -- were not penalized. Oklahoma had three teams score below 915 -- baseball, men's basketball and golf -- but was not penalized in any sport. (Austin American Statesman)

Former Sooner Adrian Peterson holding youth camp in Norman: NFL Rookie of the Year and former OU great Adrian Peterson will hold the inaugural Old Spice Adrian Peterson Football Camp presented by AT&T this summer. The camp will be for children ages 7 to 14 on June 26-28 at the OU intramural fields. The camp, which will also be led by area high school coaches, will emphasize all-around basic fundamental skills of football, including passing, receiving, defense and teamwork.
