Meet the Sooners!!

Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes

Meet the Sooners Scheduled August 6: The annual Meet the Sooners Day presented by Alltel has been set for August 6, 2008, at the rugby fields west of the Lloyd Noble Center. The event, which is highlighted by Oklahoma football coaches and players signing autographs, draws thousands of fans to Norman each year. Members of the OG&E Sooner Kids Club are admitted to Meet the Sooners Day 30 minutes before the general public. Sooner Kids Club members will have exclusive access to autographs from 10:30-11 a.m., at which time the lines will open to all fans. One parent per Sooner Kids Club member is allowed in the early line and fans are allowed one item per person to be autographed. (More information can be found at SoonerSports.com)

Creator of phony story.. works at University of Texas: The Nebraska football fan living in Austin, Texas, is a computing services manager in the information technology department at the University of Texas. Wednesday, the 36-year-old Conradt wrote a bogus article about Bradford and Jones being arrested on cocaine distribution charges, then posted it on a message board. At least two Texas radio stations initially reported the fake incident as fact as the hoax spread across the Internet. Both Kevin Jones, Landry's father, and David Thompson, publisher of The Oklahoman, are considering legal action. Following an investigation, University of Texas officials concluded Thursday that Conradt didn't use a company computer or company time to create the article. In 2005, Conradt, known on the Web by his screen name "DarthHusker," was featured in an article by the Lincoln Journal Star about the rising impact of message boards and their potential danger. "I think anonymity brings out the worst in people. There are no consequences for saying what you say," Conradt told the Star then. "New people come along all the time and are naive and believe too much of what they read. "A lot of people just post stuff to stir the pot." (The Oklahoman)

Thunander to visit Shawnee Library: Former OU defensive end Eric Thunander will visit the Pioneer Library System hometown libraries in Pottawatomie County to discuss his recently released autobiography "Silent Thunder." He will speak at the Shawnee Public Library, 101 N. Philadelphia, Monday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. and at the Tecumseh Public Library, 114 N. Broadway, Tuesday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m. Thunander, a member of the 2000 National Championship team, was one of only a few deaf athletes to play at the Division I level at the time. "Silent Thunder" chronicles the path that took him from a childhood of chronic abuse, unimaginable tragedy, and foster care to find acceptance and a family at the University of Oklahoma.
