McGuinness' Ikard receives OU offer

Josh Jarboe HS coach defends player: Football coach Ray Bonner still can't believe what transpired March 6. Josh Jarboe, one of his favorite players, was arrested at Cedar Grove High School, accused of bringing a stolen gun to school. Now Jarboe faces two felony gun charges in DeKalb County, Ga., and the possibility of losing his football scholarship to Oklahoma. "I'm so frustrated right now because he is a really good kid," Bonner said. "To paint that kid as an outlaw, that's not right." "It happens so frequently in schools today that you don't have to be the person doing anything," Bonner said. "You can be around a person with a gun and it's like you have it." Said Avery, "Josh learned a valuable lesson. Be careful who you hang around." Sooner coach Bob Stoops has declined to comment on the case. But according to the OU Board of Regents policy, no student-athlete charged with a crime can participate on a Sooner athletic team while the charges are still pending. Still, Jarboe is finishing up the last two classes he needs for his high school degree online with hopes that he'll somehow make it to Norman. "He feels like he let his family down, his teammates down," Bonner said. "But he refuses to let any of this get the best of him. He's working on his classes and going to the gym. I know he's learned from this. "I just pray and hope it's done the right way. That they don't destroy a person just to destroy a person. Because Josh really is a great kid." (The Oklahoman)
Bishop McGuinness' Ikard offered OU scholarship: Bishop McGuinness tight end Gabe Ikard received an offer from Oklahoma after Sooners assistant coach Kevin Wilson attended the Irish's intersquad scrimmage Friday. "It's very exciting," said Ikard, who has been a standout for the Irish on the football field and basketball court since his freshman year. "It's something I've wanted since I was a kid." A fan of the Sooners since childhood, Ikard said the offer meant a lot, but the senior-to-be will take his time and explore all his options before committing to a school. "I plan to take my visits then make a decision," Ikard said. "I'm not leaning (toward any school) right now." (The Oklahoman)
