Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesBroyles commits to OU: Norman High School standout Ryan Broyles made official his verbal commitment to Oklahoma on Tuesday, according to recruiting Web sites OUInsider.com and SoonerScoop.com. Broyles had committed to Oklahoma State on Monday, but then experienced some indecision Monday night. He told OUInsider.com that telling OSU coaches he'd changed his mind was "definitely tough." OU also got a re-commitment from New Orleans wide receiver Tyler Stradford. Stradford originally committed to the Sooners in December, then last week decommitted and changed to Southern Mississippi. A phone call from OU coach Bob Stoops, Stradford told OUInsider.com, cemented his original decision. (Tulsa World)Norman Coach Peters denies Report: Broyles' high school coach, Butch Peters, told The Transcript Tuesday night that the wide receiver/defensive back prospect still hadn't made up his mind, despite the Internet report that came out earlier in the day. Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy met with Broyles Tuesday, according to Peters. If other media reports are true, he would have had to return from an out-of-state recruiting trip to make the visit. "Ryan is just Ryan," Peters said. "I spoke to him (Tuesday) and he said he was going to meet with coach Gundy and think about things. I guess that will determine what Ryan’s going to do." Tuesday afternoon, OU Insider ran a full interview with Broyles. In it, Broyles sounds fully committed to the Sooners. "I just felt like that I have 'Jr.' (Madu) here and I am right here in Norman with my parents," Broyles said in the interview. "I guess, in the beginning, I wanted to go to OU because I have always liked OU. But in the end, there are even more important reasons why I am going to OU." McGill-Toolen of Mobile defensive end Sidell Corley is on the move. The former Florida commitment plans to visit LSU this weekend and will announce his college choice Monday, said his father, Sidell Corley Sr. The elder Corley said he made his son keep his word after he made an emotional decision to commit to Florida after an unofficial visit last spring. "They had a good time and that's where he wanted to be, being a 17-year-old kid," said the prospect's father. "When we sat down and talked about it, Sidell probably wanted to get out of it in October. But I told him to hold firm. `Florida is doing exactly what they're supposed to do. So we're going to do what we're supposed to do.'" Rivals.com ranks Corley the No.4 strongside defensive end in the nation. He is also the fifth-ranked prospect in Alabama, according to The Birmingham News' preseason Super Seniors list. Previous official visits were to Alabama, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Reports surfaced Monday morning that Norman High standout Ryan Broyles had decommitted from Oklahoma State and orally committed to OU. Various recruiting services reported the four-star defensive back had informed the OU coaching staff, as well as OSU receivers coach Gunter Brewer, that he was accepting an offer to join the Sooners. Norman coach Butch Peters confirmed the report Monday afternoon, adding the four-star prospect was going use the day to "let things sink and settle in.” (More at NewsOK.com)Former UT Roy Williams wants Lions to draft Peterson: During the Pistons/Pacers game tonight, wide receiver Roy Williams was in attendance. FSN Detroit caught up with him and asked a few questions regarding his trip to the Pro Bowl and the NFL Draft. Usually, players will give a generic response to the likes of, "I'll let management worry about that, it doesn't matter to me." Well, Roy Williams doesn't roll like that. Judge William Manger dismissed a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace after witnesses failed to appear at the trial Monday in Oklahoma City Municipal Court. Manger found Charles Thompson guilty after about two hours of testimony, saying consistent testimony from three police officers proved the case. The officers testified they responded about 1 a.m. Nov. 18 to the Residence Inn in west Oklahoma City after hotel managers claimed they received multiple noise complaints about Thompson's room. Thompson most recently worked as a color analyst covering high school football games for Oklahoma City sports radio station WWLS. Stephenson commits to Oklahoma: Blue Springs football offensive lineman Donald Stephenson announced his oral commitment to Oklahoma on Friday morning. Stephenson, a dominating senior tackle who played sparingly this last season because of a broken toe, chose Oklahoma after a visit last weekend. He transferred to Blue Springs from Central. Stephenson was attracted to the possibility of playing right away for the Sooners. He was recruited by at least six other schools, including Kansas and Nebraska. He originally made an oral commitment to KU but backed out last May. Oklahoma does not have as many scholarship linemen as the other schools that recruited him. "He saw that as an opportunity," Blue Springs coach Kelly Donohoe said. "(Oklahoma coach) Bob Stoops came in about a month or so ago. It's hard with their tradition to turn them down." According to Donohoe, Stephenson suffered the toe injury midway through the third game of the season and didn't return until the final game against Blue Springs South. Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes Could USC lose the 2004 National Title? A federal investigation into extortion claims by New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush and his family has revealed the existence of taped conversations that could confirm Bush took cash and gifts while he was playing football for the University of Southern California. Lloyd Lake, an investor in a failed sports marketing agency which attempted to launch with Bush as its first client, is the subject of a grand jury probe into the extortion claims. The agency -- called New Era Sports & Entertainment -- was founded by Lake and San Diego businessman Michael Michaels. Lake told Yahoo! Sports in August 2006 that he contributed a portion of the cash and gifts allegedly given to Bush and his family as part of an agreement to represent the then-USC running back when he signed an NFL contract. According to multiple sources in an ongoing Yahoo! Sports investigation, nearly $280,000 in cash, rent and gifts was allegedly given to Bush and his family. Lake and Michaels both said in August 2006 that they planned to file a lawsuit against Bush. If the NCAA rules that Bush received extra benefits during his playing career at USC, he could be ruled retroactively ineligible. Since some of the benefits date to the 2004 season, the Trojans' national championship that season could be rescinded. USC could face further NCAA sanctions and Bush's 2005 Heisman Trophy could be in jeopardy. The Heisman ballot indicates that an athlete must meet NCAA eligibility requirements to be considered for college football's most prestigious award. (More at Yahoo! Stoops issues statement, ends any coaching speculation: Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops issued a statement today in response to questions he has received pertaining to other coaching vacancies. "To end speculation here in the heart of recruiting I want to make it clear that I am not interested in any other coaching positions at this time. I am too excited about our future at Oklahoma and the program we're continuing to build." Stoops just completed his eighth season. Switzer says Cowboys owner Jones will look in NFL: The name of Bob Stoops kept tumbling off the tongues of NFL analysts Monday, all speculating on the list of potential candidates to become the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Not so fast says Barry Switzer, offering his insight into a Cowboys job he once held and an owner he knows well in Jerry Jones. Switzer said his sources in Dallas doubted Jones would turn to the college ranks to replace Bill Parcells. "Based on conversations I had with people who are nsiders, they told me that Jerry didn't want to go that route," Switzer said Monday. "Because of where they are, the time of the year with the draft and the learning curve of the salary cap. "I would be totally surprised if he went the college route. Totally, totally. Alexander was invited to display his talents for the NFL scouts during this week's practices leading up to the 2007 Senior Bowl. The event annually features the country's best senior collegiate football players and top NFL draft prospects on teams representing the North and South that are coached by the entire coaching staffs of two National Football League teams. The staff of the San Francisco 49ers will coach the South with the staff of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers directing the North squad. Alexander helped Oklahoma earn its 40th conference title with a Big 12 championship and an 11-3 overall record in 2006. He was named OU's 142nd All-American in December. The 2007 Under Armour Senior Bowl will be played at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. Bob Stoops on the list of Cowboys' candidates: After two weeks of speculation by outsiders, Parcells -- the sixth head coach in Dallas Cowboys history -- announced that he was finished with football, ending a 20-year NFL career that included three Super Bowls, two of which he won. Media outlets and those close to the Cowboys organization have already discussed several familiar names as possible successors. University of Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and former Cowboys offensive coordinator Norv Turner are considered instant candidates. Other possible replacements include New Orleans coach Sean Payton, Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher and Arkansas coach Houston Nutt. (Austin American Statesman)

Well, if you have listened to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, then you can probably rule out any college head coach lacking NFL experience. Stoops setting the rumors straight: [Bob] Stoops learned about the intensity of those rumors when he arrived back in his office and discovered the amount of telephone messages he had concerning OU's interest in Mustain. "Where is all this stuff coming from?" Stoops asked Friday. Well, it apparently started with a television station in Fort Smith, Ark., when KFSM-TV reported Wednesday that Mustain would visit OU on Thursday. Several newspapers picked up on that rumor and ran with it. Although he didn't say Mustain's name because of recruiting rules, it was obvious who Stoops was talking about when he said: "This is amazing. People are saying he was visiting (OU)? Mustain to explore options and decide in spring: Mustain's mother, Beck Campbell, says her son has not had enough time to explore his options, so he will pay his own way, live at home, and attend classes at the U of A. Campbell says he will use the spring semester to visit other schools and then transfer in May. (KTHV)

Undecided Mustain to re-enroll at Arkansas: Sources confirmed Friday afternoon that former Arkansas quarterback Mitch Mustain intends to re-enroll as a student at Arkansas but not rejoin the football team.The source said Mustain had "numerous" options available at other colleges. However, because the spring semester has already begun, Mustain believes this allows him more time to make an informed decision on what college he next attends, the source said. Mustain visits TU; Oklahoma still an option: Mitch Mustain spent Thursday afternoon touring the University of Tulsa campus. What's not known is if the former University of Arkansas starting quarterback will turn his short visit into a 48-month stay with the Golden Hurricane football program. Mustain departed Tulsa without making a decision to join the program, a source close to the situation said. His decision to attend TU this spring will have to come quickly. Friday is the final day students can add classes. Arkansas' director of athletics compliance, Marvin Caston, said Tulsa called Thursday regarding Mustain, who had asked for and received a scholarship release from coach Houston Nutt. (Tulsa World)

A Fort Smith, Ark., television station created a stir Wednesday night when it reported Mustain and his family would be in Norman Thursday for a visit.Calls to OU coaches were not returned and the level of interest the Sooners have in the former Razorback is unknown. A Fort Smith, Ark., television station reported Wednesday that Mustain had scheduled a visit to Norman for either Wednesday or Thursday, and that he would finalize his decision no later than this weekend. Former Prep Star Mustain looking at Oklahoma? Mitch Mustain wasn't in class when Arkansas' spring semester began Tuesday, and the freshman packed up his dorm room later in the day. Like former offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, Mustain has decided to leave Arkansas. The quarterback's abrupt departure is just another in a bizarre series of events for the Razorbacks over the past few days.Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said Tuesday that Mustain has asked for a release from his scholarship, giving the former Springdale High star the chance to transfer to another school. Stoops on Peterson leaving early: As he has done with almost all Sooners who have left early, Stoops stands behind Peterson's decision. "I know this has been a trying time for him and he just needs to know that we support him whole-heartedly," Stoops said. "Adrian has been a great individual player and a great teammate. His leadership and work ethic sent a strong example, and he competed with everything he had," Stoops said. "He has given us all a lot of great moments and has been fun to watch. "Now, he feels it's just time and we support that. We hope and believe that he's going to be a high pick. Adrian Peterson to enter 2007 NFL Draft: University of Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson announced today that he will forgo his final season of college eligibility and make himself available for the 2007 NFL Draft. "The last few days have been stressful," Peterson said while describing his decision-making process. "I've been pondering a lot of things and looking at it from all the different angles, weighing the good and the bad. "In the end, I think I just realized that this is a business decision and that it is time for me to take that next step. It wasn't easy. I haven't been sleeping much. I just put it all in God's hands" Peterson said he had valuable input from several people. "I got opinions from people I value like my dad and my mother," he said. Fiesta Bowl Replay: FSN Southwest will replay the Fiesta Bowl and BCS Championship Game as condensed one-hour "Best Damn Instant Bowl Classics.”The Fiesta Bowl will air at 4 p.m. today, 9 and 11 p.m. Monday and 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Sooners '08 commitment to take other visits: Junior defensive end R.J. Washington made an early commitment to Oklahoma, but it looks like there are still plenty of events that will take place before he signs next year. Washington, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound prospect in the class of 2008, says that he remains committed to the Sooners. On the other hand, he said he is not done with official visits. The schools that have caught his attention are Texas, Texas Tech, LSU, Louisville and Florida. "I'm pretty sure I'm still going to take official visits," Washington said. "Nothing's 100% because you never know what might happen. I'm still looking (at schools)." One reason for his new interest in taking visits is that his coach had been holding back on giving him all his mail so he could focus on the season. (USA Today)

Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and NotesOklahoma Spring Football Dates: Head coach Bob Stoops and the OU Athletics Department released tentative dates for spring football on Friday. All dates are subject to change with times and further details to be released later. The Sooners will begin practice on March 5th with sessions following on the 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 26th, 28th, 30th, 31st. Practice continues in April with sessions on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th. The March 14th and 31st dates are planned scrimmages while the 2007 spring game is tentatively set for Saturday, April 7.(SoonerSports.com) Brrr!!! Its too cold to think about spring football, glad its almost around the corner.For NASCAR Fans, the previous couple spring red/white games have been on the same NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway weekend, this year's Samsung RadioShack 500 is scheduled for April 12-15 weekend.Labels: Oklahoma Sooners, Red White Game, Spring Practice

Weather closes Switzer Center: The Legends Lobby of the Switzer Center will be closed Friday, Jan. 12, due to inclement weather in the area. The Swizter Center will resume its regular hours next week. The Legends Lobby is open Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The three-story, 6,000-foot Switzer Center display chronicles the history of football at the University of Oklahoma. It includes video presentations, interactive screens and rare pieces of memorabilia. There is no admission charge to enter Legends Lobby, although donations are accepted. (SoonerSports.com)
