Troy Aikman on OU/Miami: Troy Aikman recently discussed his OU/Miami memories during a recent FOX Sports conference call... "I had committed to Oklahoma State when I was a senior in high school," Aikman said. "My second-to-last recruiting trip, I told Jimmy I was coming (to Miami), but I wanted to take the last trip of recruiting weekend to OU and see what it was all about. I did that and decided to go to Oklahoma. Broke my leg against Miami while Jimmy was coaching there. And then when I was transferring, Jimmy was recruiting me in Miami but I decided to go to UCLA. "(In 1989) I'm getting drafted by the Cowboys and I find out that 'some guy from Arkansas' (Jerry Jones) had bought the team from Bum Bright and was going to hire Jimmy Johnson as the head coach. And I'm thinking to myself, 'Good gosh, I can't get away from this guy. Then next thing I know, Jimmy is leaving and they say Barry Switzer is coming in to coach and I say, 'Man, here we go again.' Now I'm on a conference call with Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer! I'll tell ya, I can't get away from them to save my life, and we're (20) years removed!" (More at Tulsa World)
OU-Miami matchup draws interest: Saturday's OU-Miami showdown has drawn interest outside the states of Florida and Oklahoma. Ivan Maisel from ESPN.com and Dennis Dodd from CBS Sportsline, along with writers from the Austin American-Statesman, Kansas City Star, Omaha World-Herald, Washington Times and Wichita Eagle have requested media credentials. Also, seven pro teams are sending scouts, at least five more than a normal Sooner home game, OU spokesman Kenny Mossman said. (NewsOK.com)
UM WR Leggett almost chose OU: Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables said Miami senior wide receiver Lance Leggett, the Hurricanes' big-play threat and former Arlington Grace Prep standout, was almost a Sooner. Venables, who recruits North Texas for OU, said Leggett had narrowed his choices to Miami and OU before picking the Hurricanes. (Dallas Morning News)
