M. Kelly on Miami Defense; Canes Not Worried About OU Crowd

Oklahoma Sooner Football Articles and Notes

Malcolm Kelly on Miami defense: "Yesterday I started watching film, and they have a lot of speed in their secondary," (Malcolm) Kelly said of the Hurricanes. "And a lot of talent. It's going to be exciting. It's going to be a challenge. "I still think in the end, I'll take our secondary any day," Kelly said. "I get good preparation all during the week going against Reggie (Smith), going against Marcus (Walker). On Saturday, it's going to be that same type of competition, so I'll be ready for it." (Tulsa World)

OU's crowd no worry for 'Canes: Oklahoma drew 84,472 fans to its season-opening 79-10 victory against North Texas on Saturday, marking the football team's 50th consecutive sellout. If the same number of fans attending last week's opener show up to Memorial Stadium for Saturday's game against Miami, it will rank as the eighth-largest crowd ever to see a UM game. Miami is 8-2 all-time playing before the 10 largest audiences in school history. Each of those games has been played on the road or in a neutral site. UM coach Randy Shannon scoffed at the notion that his players will be affected by the crowd on Saturday, no matter how big it is. "It won't be a shock," Shannon said. "Some of these (UM players) are from Texas. They've played in big games before in Dallas (with) 30,000 or 40,000 fans screaming. Just because it's Oklahoma and there'll be 80,000 or 105,000 those fans won't make any difference between those yard lines. They won't." (Palm Beach Post)

Shannon: No time to celebrate: Randy Shannon said he put his first victory as head coach of the Miami Hurricanes behind him in "two, maybe three” minutes. That's because he knew what was next, Shannon told the Miami Herald. "You can get Gatorade dumped on your head and (have) everybody in Miami patting you on the shoulder,” he said. "But you know what? It ain't going to ever help you win the game the next week against Oklahoma.” (NewsOK.com)

Miami's QB Freeman on OU-Miami: (Kirby Freeman) A native of Texas, this is the closest he will play to home this season, unless the Hurricanes play a bowl game in that area. "I'm jacked," said Freeman, who played at Brownwood High. "I'm excited. I've got plenty of people coming to the game." (Sun Sentinel)
