Bradford Named National Offensive Player of the Week
Sam Bradford named Walter Camp player of the week: Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford has been named the national offensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Foundation. Bradford was honored for his play in OU's 51-13 win over Miami. The redshirt freshman from Oklahoma City completed 19-of-25 passes for 205 yards and a school record five touchdowns (tied) with no interceptions in Oklahoma's convincing non-conference victory. The TD passes tied a record for the most ever allowed by Miami. Just one week earlier, the Hurricanes' defense picked off four passes in a win over Marshall. Three of Bradford's touchdown throws went to Malcolm Kelly from 23, 24 and 30 yards. He also threw a six-yarder to Jermaine Gresham and a nine-yarder to Dane Zaslaw. Bradford hit his first four passes of the game to extend his string of consecutive completions to 22, an OU record and just two shy of the NCAA mark. (SoonerSports.com)
OU's Patrick suffered cramps: Oklahoma RB Allen Patrick did not play after two carries in the third quarter, but did not reinjure his right ankle, instead suffering leg cramps. (Star-Telegram)
Impressive Bradford performance: (Sam) Bradford became the second quarterback to throw five touchdown passes against Miami, joining UCLA's Cade McNown, who did so in 1998. (Tulsa World)
Jon Cooper on Bradford: "Oh, yeah. We've got a quarterback," junior center Jon Cooper said. "He's proven himself. He's doing a great job. We're confident in all three of our QBs. They named Sam the starter, we were like, all right, let's roll." (Star-Telegram)
