Big 12 Commissioner Weiberg resigns for Big Ten position: Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg is stepping down effective July 15 to take a position with the newly formed Big Ten Network. Weiberg's announcement was met with shock across the Big 12 Conference. Weiberg, 50, who had three years remaining on his contract with the Big 12, released a statement and was scheduled to address reporters on a 2 p.m. teleconference. "I am proud of the growth and progress of the Big 12 over the last nine years," Weiberg said in a statement. "By working together our members have excelled competitively, significantly grown revenues, and established a strong national presence and leadership position among the major conferences." Weiberg wrapped up his ninth year as commissioner of the Big 12 by helping to negotiate a new television package with ESPN/ABC for football and basketball over the next eight years.
