(1/28) Sooners 12th Commitment of 2007*
Stephenson commits to Oklahoma: Blue Springs football offensive lineman Donald Stephenson announced his oral commitment to Oklahoma on Friday morning. Stephenson, a dominating senior tackle who played sparingly this last season because of a broken toe, chose Oklahoma after a visit last weekend. He transferred to Blue Springs from Central. Stephenson was attracted to the possibility of playing right away for the Sooners. He was recruited by at least six other schools, including Kansas and Nebraska. He originally made an oral commitment to KU but backed out last May. Oklahoma does not have as many scholarship linemen as the other schools that recruited him. "He saw that as an opportunity," Blue Springs coach Kelly Donohoe said. "(Oklahoma coach) Bob Stoops came in about a month or so ago. It's hard with their tradition to turn them down." According to Donohoe, Stephenson suffered the toe injury midway through the third game of the season and didn't return until the final game against Blue Springs South. (Kansas City Star)
