Cotton Bowl gets HD upgrade: The State Fair of Texas has chosen Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, S.D., to design and build a true high definition (HD) light emitting diode (LED) video display for the Cotton Bowl, home of the annual AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic, the Red River Rivalry featuring national champion University of Texas and perennial powerhouse Oklahoma, and other football and entertainment events. The Sportsound(R) division of Daktronics will provide a new integrated sound system as part of the multi-million dollar contract. The scoreboard and sound system upgrades are part of a $50 million renovation project which includes increasing the seating capacity from 76,100 to 92,100, and numerous fan amenity improvements. "We are very pleased to announce this significant upgrade to the Cotton Bowl," said Errol McKoy, President of the State Fair of Texas, home of the Cotton Bowl. "More fans at home are watching their favorite sports events on high definition television. Now the Cotton Bowl is one of only a small number of venues in the world at which fans will be able watch live action and highlights in true high definition on state-of-the-art Daktronics technology. We are committed to making the Cotton Bowl one of the very best college football stadiums. This upgrade is a significant part of our plan, and represents the high quality approach we will be taking as we move forward, project by project." The new Cotton Bowl main scoreboard will replace a Daktronics scoreboard that was installed in 1975. This project will be the third in which Daktronics will provide its ProStar(R) LED VideoPlus high definition technology. Dolphin Stadium in Miami boasts two of the world's largest high definition LED displays. The University of Texas will unveil its new high definition ProStar(R) display this fall at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin. Daktronics (www.daktronics.com)
