(10/30) Peterson Yards Combined, Injury Report, Dream came true and more.
Oklahoma Football Notes and Articles
Venables Proud of Defense: Defensive coordinator Brent Venables' mother passed away Tuesday night, and several players said they wanted to get a win in honor of his loss. The Sooners had nine sacks and allowed just 283 yards. "It's almost overwhelming the support you sometimes don't realize you have until you're faced with some tough situations," Venables said. "Collectively, we kind of all pulled through it together." (Dallas Morning News)
Peterson yards combined: Peterson's 36-yard TD run on his second play from scrimmage totaled more yards than his last four games combined. Peterson did not play against Baylor but tallied four yards on 16 rushes against Kansas State, Texas and Kansas. (Sooner Sports Release)
Gutierrez Injured: The sophomore running back suffered what's believed to be a dislocated elbow with a possible small fracture. The injury to his right arm came in the first quarter and Gutierrez did not return. He had the elbow iced and in a sling. (Injury Report from NewsOK.com)
Dream came true: Senior cornerback Chijioke Onyenegecha said he dreamed of making an interception against Nebraska and returning it for a touchdown. That's exactly what he did in the second quarter. Onyenegecha jumped in front of Zac Taylor's pass and dashed 63 yards to give OU a 21-3 lead. "Before the play, I told [safety Reggie Smith] that I was going to jump into the flats," Onyenegecha said. "I jumped it, and he threw it right there. I focused on watching the ball into my hands, and I caught it." (Dallas Morning News)
Peterson the Difference Maker: "You can't put what he means to us in words," OU fullback J.D. Runnels said. "You can tell the difference between Adrian with the ankle (injury) and plain old Adrian." Plain old Adrian is the type of player capable of breaking big runs on any play. The Sooners had been without it in their previous three games. They'd also lacked the ability to wear down a defense. Peterson brought that to the table Saturday, too. "He's a hard man to take down," Nebraska defensive lineman Jay Moore said. "I had him a couple times and he's strong. He's a heck of a back, you know. He’s by far the best we've played so far." (Norman Transcript)
Sooners Streakin: Oklahoma has now won is last 12 straight regular season contests against the Big 12 North Division, dating back to the Sooners' last trip to Nebraska in 2001 when the Huskers prevailed, 20-10. (Sooner Sports Release)
