(10/26) Neb. hopes for shot at AD, OU-NEB Rivalry, Peterson watch and much much more.
Oklahoma Football Notes and Articles
Neb. hopes for a shot at AD: Nebraska linebacker Bo Ruud said Tuesday that he and his teammates welcome the opportunity to face Peterson, OU's All-American running back. "He's a great player and you always want a team's best shot," Ruud said. “I personally would kind of like him to play because he's their best player and one of the best running backs in the nation. I'd like to play against him." (NewsOK.com)
OU-Neb Rivalry: Athletic director Joe Castiglione said Oklahoma-Nebraska is still "the classiest rivalry in college football." It didn't seem like it last season when Nebraska coach Bill Callahan ran out of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium calling OU fans "[expletive] hillbillies." They returned in kind by throwing oranges onto the field as the Sooners marched toward the Orange Bowl. "I think there were a lot of unfortunate circumstances around that whole day," Bob Stoops said. "I don't think Bill means that by any means. There's no bad blood, at least not on our part." (Dallas Morning News)
Peterson Watch: Oklahoma tailback Adrian Peterson, who has missed all or most of the last three games with an ankle injury, is getting more repetitions in practice than he has the past two weeks. "He's improved," OU coach Bob Stoops said. "We're more encouraged than we have been at any other time. We'll still need to see what happens later on in the week. There's just a difference in practice and making those cuts on gameday. (NewsOK.com)
No regret for Neb. Quarterback and Norman native: Oklahoma only called a time or two, maybe talked to Zac Taylor at summer camps, and then it wasn't long before the realist in Taylor took over. The Sooners weren't too interested in the quarterback even though he was right there in their back yard. And Taylor, although OU football was all he had ever known, was OK with it. Taylor will be Nebraska's starting quarterback Saturday when he plays against OU for the first time. Growing up in Norman, Okla., he always had hopes of it being the other way around. Did you Know? Some perspective for restless OU fans: According to statistics released this week by the media-relations department at Illinois, Oklahoma has played the third-most freshmen (12) in NCAA Division I-A -- behind Arkansas and Duke and ahead of Kentucky. The Sooners (4-3, 3-1 Big 12) are the only team among the four with a winning record. The record of the other teams combined is 4-17, 0-12 in conference games. (Star-Telegram)
