Sooner helping out in Hurricane relief: As a result of the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren has directed that those attending the OU football season opener versus TCU this Saturday, Sept. 3, be given the opportunity to help those in need in the Gulf Coast region. During the game, buckets will be passed to receive contributions. Checks will be accepted and should be made payable to the American Red Cross. Proceeds will be turned over to the American Red Cross for relief efforts in the Gulf Region. Some 150 student volunteers will assist with the collection, which will be prompted by a public address announcement during the first quarter of the game. (SoonerSports.com)
