Now the news from Saturday:
WWE's Jim Ross and Ric Flair make stop at Sooner's Practice: Oklahoma fan and senior adviser for World Wrestling Entertainment Jim Ross, better known to pro wrestling fans as J.R. and the voice of WWE, showed up at Friday's practice with a guest -- "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Flair, one of the legends of pro wrestling, spoke to the team during a mid-practice break after OU coach Bob Stoops called him and Ross onto the field. Flair and Ross were in town to promote the WWE pay-per-view event "Unforgiven," which will be held at the Ford Center on Sept. 18. Stoops said he first met Flair back in his days as an assistant at Florida. "The players love it," Stoops said of Flair's visit. "They all recognize him and J.R. It's a change of pace. Let him say hi to 'em." (NewsOK.com)
Thompson says Experience will win him starting job, Bomer "a little overrated": Junior Paul Thompson said his experience at quarterback could help him win the starting job this season. But redshirt freshman Rhett Bomar said experience is "a little overrated." The Grand Prairie graduate said he could become comfortable in the job in one game. (DallasNews.com)
Oklahoma Coaches Preseason Ranking: Oklahoma Sooner's are ranked 5th in USA Today/ESPN's Coaches Poll. USC remained #1, followed by Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, then Oklahoma. (USA Today Complete Rankings)
QB Race Wide Open: Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Friday that no one should jump to conclusions in the Sooners' race for a starting quarterback. Stoops said it seems many pundits have decided there's a pecking order for the quarterbacks that developed during the time that passed between the end of spring practice and the start of fall camp. "We came out of spring believing that they each had a scrimmage or two that they were good at and one or two that they made some mistakes at," Stoops said. "Each of them did that and in our mind there was not a separation going into (Thursday's) practice. I feel it's unfortunate that so many of you in the media have ranked them and have put them in place so that players have to hear that the entire summer. It's really not fair." (SoonerSports.com)
Practice Moves inside: A little more than an hour into practice at the OU Rugby Fields, sudden strong winds, an immediate 20-degree drop in temperature and lightning forced the Sooners to head to the indoor facility to complete drills. It made for a unique scene for anyone driving on Jenkins Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Carloads and truckloads of Sooner players could be seen cruising down the road, many still wearing helmets. Joseph Better then Brown? Offensive line coach Kevin Wilson said Davin Joseph, who will move from right guard to left tackle this season, is the best of Oklahoma's offensive linemen this year and was last year, too, although others got most of the acclaim. Wilson said Joseph, a 6-foot-3, 306-pound senior, compared favorably to AP All-American tackle Jammal Brown, a first-round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints, and all-Big 12 center Vince Carter. Joseph was picked to the Big 12's second team last season. "Davin Joseph is our best player, was our best player last year, if you all would have asked," Wilson said. "But you all wanted to talk about Jammal and Vince, so we just answered about Jammal and Vince. But Davin was the best guy last year. (SoonerSports.com)
