Oklahoma Football Notes and Articles
Cade to transfer to City College of San Francisco: Oklahoma safety Tony Cade has withdrawn from classes and intends to transfer to City College of San Francisco, according to coach Bob Stoops. "We had a good talk," Stoops said. "He just feels like he's going to get an opportunity to do something else there. We wish him the best." Cade, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, missed several practices last week while pondering his future. (NEWSOK.com)
Nine Freshmen listed on Depth Chart: Coach Bob Stoops has indicated that several freshmen will play this season. Nine freshmen were listed on the team's two-deep depth chart, which was unveiled Monday. Receivers Manuel Johnson and Juaquin Iglesias were listed as backups and both figure to see playing time Saturday against TCU. Reggie Smith is behind sophomore Lewis Baker at strong safety. Nic Harris was listed as the starting nickel back. (Dallas Morning News)
Up on Depth Chart: The only real surprise on OU's updated depth chart, which was released Monday, was redshirt freshman Cory Bennett's position as a starter at defensive tackle. Whether he starts remains to be seen, of course, since Dusty Dvoracek has been cleared to play. Still, Bennett has surpassed sophomore Steven Coleman on the depth chart. (NEWSOK.com)
Oklahoma-TCU Game Central: Oklahoma begins its 111th season of intercollegiate football competition Saturday when it hosts Texas Christian University. The Sooners are opening at home for the third consecutive season and for the sixth time in Bob Stoops’ seven seasons. The game will be live on ABC at 11 a.m. CT. Please consult the regional coverage map at Sooner Gameday Central for more information. The game will also be broadcast across the Sooner Sports Radio Network, on Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 123 and around the world via Yahoo! live internet audio at SoonerSports.com. TCU also was the opening day opponent in 1993 (OU won at Fort Worth, 35-3) and in 1996 (TCU won in Norman, 20-7). The Sooners are ranked No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the Associated Press Poll. TCU is unranked. It’s the opener for both squads. OU hosts Tulsa next week, while TCU is at SMU. Keith returns: Junior offensive lineman Brandon Keith, who left preseason camp after two days of practice, has rejoined the team. Keith, a 6-foot-6, 320-pounder from McAlester by way of NEO, will be brought along slowly and might now be headed for a redshirt. But co-offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson was glad to have the talented player back in the fold. "Our desire is that hopefully it's going to be a positive deal, but we'll see," said Wilson, who coaches the offensive line. "I'm glad he's back." (NEWSOK.com)
