Coach Says He'll Stay with Sooners

Stoops Says He's Not Interested Right Now:
Sooners coach Bob Stoops shot down speculation that he is interested in an NFL head coaching position, according to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News. "There's a time for everybody maybe, if you get those opportunities, and somewhere down the line, that may [be] for me," Stoops said at a press conference in Miami. "I enjoy too much right now what we're doing, the opportunity, the way we're building our program."

Several NFL positions have become available recently, with the Miami Dolphins' job going to LSU coach Nick Saban, who received a contract worth $5 million per season and control over personnel. Stoops resisted advances from the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers in previous season; the Browns job is available again but might not be attractive to Stoops because Carmen Policy -- the team president who, like Stoops, is from Youngstown, Ohio -- is no longer with the club. DE Calls USC "Average"

Birdine says USC offense is "Average":
Yahoo College Football Reports: Get the bulletin board ready: Oklahoma defensive end Larry Birdine thinks Southern California's offense is "average." Birdine made that known Tuesday in a series of statements that showed he wasn't all that impressed with the offense the No. 1 Trojans will bring to the Orange Bowl to face the Sooners on Jan. 4. "I feel like they're, I'd say, a one-and-a-half-man team," Birdine said. "I want to respect them just because I have to play them, but then I watch them on tape and everything, and I realize that they're an average team."

Peterson 2nd, White 3rd and Leinart Wins Heisman

Matt Leinart Wins Heisman

Matt Leinart edged out the two Oklahoma teammates Adrian Peterson and last years' Heisman winner Jason White. Peterson, fell short of becoming the first Heisman winner as a freshman. Peterson received 997 overall points, edging out teammate and White (957) for second. Peterson's second-place finish is the best by a freshman. Georgia's Herschel Walker had the previous freshman best when he was third to winner George Rogers of South Carolina, a running back, in 1980. Michael Vick was a redshirt freshman quarterback at Virginia Tech when he was third in 1999.

Leinart received 1,325 points and won all but one of the six voting regions. He came in third in the Southwest, where White led with 263 points and freshman tailback and teammate Adrian Peterson was second with 197.

Leinart and teammate Reggie Bush will face Adrian Peterson, Jason White and Co. in the FedEx Orange Bowl.

White Award Winner List and Heisman Race

White Takes Awards Home:

Senior Quarterback continues to add to his large trophy case. Thursday night he took home the

Maxwell Award as college football's best all-around player and won his second straight Davey O'Brien quarterback trophy. In addition, White captured the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's outstanding quarterback. White, who captured the O'Brien Award and Heisman Trophy last year, has thrown 33 touchdown passes with just six interceptions this season.

The award was named after Davey O'Brien, who led TCU to the 1938 national championship and was the first player to win the Heisman, Walter Camp and Maxwell Awards in one season.

Big XII says No to Dusty Dvoracek

Former Oklahoma lineman Dusty Dvoracek's bid for a medical hardship was denied by the Big 12. He can now appeal to the NCAA, which could grant a waiver allowing him to play next season.

Dvoracek was kicked off the team by coach Bob Stoops in September. After completing an anger-management and alcohol-related program, the defensive tackle appealed to a Big 12 review committee.
