Outlaw Speedway
Weekend Preview: Muskogee's Mike Withrow has been a model
of consistency at Outlaw Motor Speedway this summer. Without a
feature win, the Muskogee driver is hot on the heals of fellow
Muskogee driver Gary Andrews for the points lead in the
Modified Division. Andrews, the defending champion took
Withrow's route last season to capture his second Modified
points title as he was held winless in 2004. Currently he
leads Withrow by only 30 points as the races at the
three-eighths mile oval head into the final stages Friday
night. They start at 7:30 p.m. Andrews has four feature wins
to his credit that has helped him produce 2,227 points.
Withrow, finishing consistently in the top five
week-after-week, has 2,197. Withrow came within a whisker of
taking his first A feature last week, leading the race in the
final stages before being passed by Tate Cole (lap 18) who
drove to the win. Muskogee’s Jared Russell has an outside
chance at catching the two points leaders, but they would
really have to falter. Russell is third with 1,884. Lynn
Combs, Fort Gibson, has a comfortable lead over Tahlequah’s
Jason Ward in the Pure Stock race. Combs has 2,360 points to
Ward’s 2,114. Out of the running in third is Brandon Fields,
Checotah, with 1,758. Tim Sands, another Muskogee driver,
continues to lead the Factory Stock chase with a 164-point
lead over Randy Moses, Muskogee, 2,194-2,030. Third belongs to
Dale Richardson, Muskogee, with 1,950. Heath Weston and
Shannon Reheard, both of Muskogee, are one-two in the Economy
Modified with 2,252 and 2,151 points respectively. Curtis
Whittle, Oktaha, is third with 1,947. (Outlaw Motor Speedway

Flatt has
championship wrapped up: The Super Sprint driver from
Mustang needs only to finish one lap of the Sept. 2
regular-season finale at State Fair Speedway to claim his
second open-wheel championship and first since 1997. Flatt,
42, holds an insurmountable 300-point lead over Kenneth Walker
of Sapulpa. A driver earns 50 points just for making an
official appearance, or completing one lap. Flatt finished
fifth in Friday night's Super Sprint A feature and fourth in
his heat race. That earned him enough points to hold off
Walker, who won the A feature and finished fourth in his heat.
Robb, takes another flip: Thirteen-year-old Super
Sprint driver Trey Robb had a disappointing follow to his best
week ever. Robb, on Aug. 19, became the youngest driver in the
speedway's 51-year history to win an A feature. But Robb ran
into trouble early in his heat race. After moving from the
third row to the front on lap one, Robb's No. 12 shut down in
turn two, and he did not finish the heat. Robb rallied by
winning the B feature, but he flipped in turn two on the first
lap of the A feature. Robb, a Newcastle student, was uninjured
and waved to the crowd as he was taken to the pit area aboard
a 4-wheeler. (NewsOK.com)

Trey Robb, 13,
makes history with a feature win: Trey Robb, 13, made
history this past Friday night by being the youngest driver in
the 51 year history of Oklahoma City’s State Fair Speedway to
win an A feature. As Robb raced past the checkered flag, the
crowd of approximately 2,200 fans were on their feet rewarding
the driver with a standing ovation. Cheering continued as Robb
drove his No. 12 car into victory circle and into the record
books. Robb dominated the field early with skill and
determination. When asked afterward about his strategy for the
race, Robb replied that it was, “just to get out ahead.”
Getting out ahead was exactly what the Rookie of the Year
candidate did. He started the feature in sixth place, but
after a restart around lap four charged ahead to take the lead
from Bud Johnson for good. By lap seven, Robb was maneuvering
through lapped traffic smoothly on his way to the $1000 prize
and the new record. Joe Wood Jr, veteran Kenneth Walker, Bud
Johnson and Kevin Pickard rounded out the top five in the
20-lap race. This is Robb’s first season to drive in the 360
Super Sprint division. What did he think about the win? While
his supporters were excited and celebrating, Robb seemed to be
taking it all in stride. With a grin he said simply that it
was “awesome.” At 13, Trey Robb’s entire career has already
been awesome. Before the age of 12, Robb raced at I-44
Speedway, also in Oklahoma City collecting an amazing 66 A
feature wins and four track championships. This year, Robb is
number six in the point standings with two heat wins, seven A
feature top ten’s, and one top five. It looks like plans for
the future of Trey Robb will continue along an “awesome”
track. Car owners, Rodney and Randy Timms and father Perry
Robb have confirmed plans to run Trey on the American Sprint
Car Series next season with some of the best sprint car
drivers in the country. Rodney Timms related, “The best way to
get a driver ready for NASCAR is to have them race at as many
different tracks as possible and to have them learn to work on
the cars.” He will get plenty of track action along the ASCS
tour next year and has worked in theTimms’ race shop all of
this season. To learn more about this history making young

Tulsa Points
Championship to be determined Friday Night: Friday, August
26, wraps up the 2005 points season at Tulsa Speedway and
several titles are going down to the final night. The closest
race is in the modified divsion where Ronnie Hunt moved into a
10-point lead over three-time champion Greg Skaggs to force a
final night showdown. Hunt finished third in last weeks A
feature while Skaggs struggled and finished 14th. B.J.
Frohnapfel will need to stay out of trouble Friday night to
maintain his lead and win the factory stock title. Daniel Ray
Denton will need to do the same in the mini stock division.
David Dutton will have to wait a week to lock up the pro 4
crown as their final points race is Sept. 3 during the United
Ford Night special. Points racing is over after Friday but
plenty of racing remains at special non-point events are being
setup for September and October. Details will be announced
soon. (Tulsa Speedway)

13 yr. old
racing star, Robb wins: Trey Robb in dominating fashion,
became the State Fair Speedway's 51 year history youngest
driver to win a A-Main. Robb, at 13 racing in the top
division, in 360 injected Super Sprint. Early in the
A-Main, Robb moved quickly through the field by lap 4, the
Rookie of the Year candidate, was driving away with the lead
passing leader Bud Johnson for good. By lap 8, a multi-car
incident brought out the red-flag. Again, on the restart
Robb had another young sprint car driver, Joe Wood, Jr.
challenging for the feature win. Robb, continued on in
dominating fashion to pull to victory, out driving Wood Jr.
and veteran Kenneth Walker, Johnson and Kevin Pickard to
rounded out the top five in the 20-lap race. (Complete

Sprint and
Bandits Topless Tour hits OKC: The Sprint Bandit Tour 'N
Topless circuit came to State Fair Speedway Wednesday night
for the first time since Speedway promoter Lanny Edwards took
over as full-time promoter in 2002. According to Edwards, the
Sprint Bandits didn't disappoint. "I hope they can come back
next season," Edwards said. "They put on a great show." With
their big 410-cubic-inch engines and wingless chassis, the
Bandits certainly provided a show of horsepower on the
straight-aways and a propensity to flip over through the
turns. Five flips took place before the heat races were
over; five breath-taking flips. One of which sent a driver to
the ambulance and another to the hospital. (More at

August 12th every class will see a change in the A-Feature
lineups. The changes will come in form of a draw to announce
the way the Features will line up for that night. All
divisions will still draw numbers for their heat race line up
but the A-Feature line up will be determined by a draw of a
pill each Friday. Three options of how the lineups will be
determined are as follows :

A-Feature as they finish in their heat race.

will start on the pole and each position will fall into line
accordingly. Fourth position will be second, third position
third etc....

Dean Wins Modified Race:
Ho Dean took the lead away from Bobby York then turned
back Tim Bailey in the closing laps to win the modified A
feature Friday at Tulsa Speedway. Dean moved into second
behind Bobby York on lap seven and finally slipped by York for
the lead on lap 12 in turn two. But his lead was far from safe
as Tim Bailey closed in passing York for second on lap 14.
Bailey challenged Dean in turn one of lap 19 but Dean held his
line for his first win of the season. Bailey finished second
ahead of Steve Lacy in third. Matt Weintz turned back a
late bid by Kenny McGee to win a wild pure stock feature.
McGee challenged with one lap remaining, but Weintz held on to
win over McGee and John Watt in third. The race was red
flagged just after the halfway mark when Cody Tucker flipped
into the infield. Rusty Etherton spun and nearly flipped on
the backstretch and Tucker shot to the infield clipping a tire
next to a light pole base. Tucker was not hurt. Points leader
Daniel Ray Denton picked up his ninth mini stock victory.
Denton passed Jerry Hausman after two laps and drove to
victory. Gregg Overstreet passed Hausman on lap five to
capture second. (Tulsa

Wright wins a record fourth straight: Friday night at
State Fair Speedway, defending series champion and current
point leader Gary Wright posted a first in fourteen years of
O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by
Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores competition by scoring
his fourth consecutive feature triumph in the 25-lap main
event. In the 435th O'Reilly ASCS National Tour feature event,
Wright scored an unprecedented fourth win in a row in
convincing fashion aboard the Wesmar-powered Southwest
Express/The Shop/Richwood Construction No. 9 Maxim. "We had a
really good car again tonight, the Wesmar and Maxim
combination is working great, four in row is nice and I just
hope we can keep it going," Wright commented from victory
lane. Wright earned the pole position for the feature by
racing from fifth to win the evening's third heat race. After
the initial start was waved off for Toby Brown's wild turn one
flip, Wright outgunned fellow front row starter Andy Shouse to
snare the lead at the drop of the green. Wright immediately
checked out, leaving Shouse to fend off a host of challengers
for second. Wright's pace was interrupted several times along
the way by minor cautions, but "The Texan" resumed his
lightning-quick pace on each restart. Following the race's
final stoppage after 18 rounds, when Gary Owens flipped
without injury in turn two, Wright raced away from the field
and snared career victory number 99 with a straightaway
advantage. Wright shoots for the century win mark Saturday
night at Tulsa Speedway. Danny Jennings battled past Shouse
for second in the early stages and appeared poised to mount a
challenge for the lead until a turn three spin with five laps
in the books sent Jennings to the tail. Shouse fought off the
advances of Nick Smith and tenth-starter Darren Stewart
through the race's mid-stages. Stewart's challenges for second
came to a halt when he clipped an infield tire exiting turn
four and spun down the front stretch on the 18th lap. Stewart
rejoined the chase. Smith slid high exiting turn four on the
21st lap, leaving Shouse to fight off fellow 2004 American
Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region co-champion Kevin Ramey
over the final rounds to post a career best ASCS National Tour
runner-up finish. Ramey settled for the show position, with
current Sooner Region point leader Sean McClelland advancing
from eleventh to fourth as former ASCS National champion
Travis Rilat charged from 14th to round out the top five. Mike
Peters crossed the stripe sixth after starting 17th, with
15th-starter Cody Branchcomb, Smith, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and
18th-starter Natalie Sather completing the top ten. After
utilizing his final provisional starting position of the year,
leading Brodix Rookie of the Year contender Tony Bruce, Jr.,
earned Hard Charger honors by racing from 22nd to eleventh.
Hafertepe, Larry Neighbors, Wright, Owens and Smith topped
heat race action for the 37-car field. Branchcomb picked up
victory honors in the first 12-lap "B" Main, while Jason
Martin picked up the win in "B" Main number two when
13-year-old Trey Robb's apparent last lap pass for the win was
negated when he weighed in two pounds below the required 1,475
pound minimum. The evening got off to a wild start when Dara
Morrow and Sean Walden tangled and flipped wildly down the
front stretch as the green flag flew upon the opening heat
race. Both drivers walked away from their mangled machines
uninjured. (ASCS Racing PR)

Turner wins the
O'Reilly MLRA 2005 at Salina: With several near misses
behind him Creighton, MO's David Turner put it all together
and picked up his first win of the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder
Tour Saturday night at the Salina Highbanks in Salina, OK.
Turner took off from the drop of the green flag and quickly
set a torrid pace that the rest of the field was unable to
keep up with. Behind the leader a battle was brewing between
CJ Lyle and Al Purkey, but Lyle continued to hold position on
Purkey. Leading from start to finish Turner appeared to be a
man on a mission as he raced under the checkered flag ahead of
Lyle and Purkey with Charlie Randolph and Jason Bodenhamer
completing the top five at the line. Kingsville, MO's David
Barker, CJ Lyle, and David Turner picked up wins in the three
heats run earlier in the evening to set up the feature event.
Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is a trip to Nebraska and

rolls through Oklahoma on July 29 and 30 with the O'Reilly
Mid-West Late Model Racing Association 2005 Thunder Tour in

The star of the O'Reilly MLRA will take to the track and
battle it out for the $2,000 top prize. "We couldn't be
happier making the trip down to visit the Clay family and put
on a show for the Oklahoma fans," stated Harriett Chancellor,
promoter of the O'Reilly MLRA. "We have adjusted our purse
just a little as a gesture to the hospitality and support that
the entire crew at OMS has shown us throughout our 2005
season. We had a discussion with Gary (Clay) and decided that
we wanted to do this to say thanks for inviting us to come
play in his house." With $2,000 to win and $250 to start all
eyes will be up front to see who can take home the winner's
share of the purse, but if any driver can set up a charge in
the 2005 Thunder Tour points standings. Coffeyville, KS, #33
Al Purkey still sits atop the points standings with a 947-861
lead over Belton, MO’s #22V Alan Vaughn. The last time the
Late Models visited over the Independence Day weekend, Vaughn
took the win Friday night as Purkey stole the show on
Saturday. (Find Out more at our

Series National Tour presented by Love’s Travel Stops &
Country Stores invades the Sooner State for a pair of events
this Friday and Saturday night. Friday night, the series takes
to Oklahoma City’s State Fair Speedway as Love’s Travel Stops
& Country Stores kicks off its annual fund-raising efforts for
the Children’s Miracle Network. Then on Saturday night, the
series makes the trek up the Turner Turnpike to make its
second stop of the season at Tulsa Speedway. Both events will
be run in conjunction with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS
Sooner Region.

ASCS head to Tulsa Speedway: Sprint car racing returns in
a big way Saturday when the ASCS National Tour makes a stop at
Tulsa Speedway. Series points leader Gary Wright of Hooks,
Texas will lead a full field of competitors to Tulsa. Only 86
points back of Wright in second is Darren Stewart of Bixby.
The race will also be a points race for the ASCS Sooner region
and Sean McClelland is on top of that point chart. The OCRS
sprints will also be competing on the program in a
$1,000-to-win points show. Defending champion Mike Goodman,
driving the Bobby Moore owned sprinter, is currently leading
the point chase. Race time is 7:30. Friday nights regular
point show will feature a $1,500-to-win $100-to-start payout
for the modified division. Six classes will be racing Friday
starting at 7:30.

Owen Outduels Decker, Robb Takes First Flip: Championship
sprint drivers Gary Owens and Michelle Decker had plenty of
warm-up for the feature race Friday night at State Fair
Speedway. Owens and Decker battled for first and second
place in the champ sprint heat race, only to find themselves
in the same position on lap 13 of the feature. Unfortunately
for Decker, the result was the same. Owens passed her No. 12
car to take the checkered flag in both races. Decker still
performed admirably in the feature, holding off the
always-fast No. 2 car of Kenneth Walker. Decker kept her rear
in front of Walker for the final five laps to finish second.
Randy Timms followed up his second-place finish in the last
USA modified feature race with a win Friday night. Timms took
the lead on lap seven and led the rest of the way. Rick
Goforth finished second, Stanley Reed Jr. third. In the pro
stock division, Steve Smith finished ahead of Travis Gorbet
and James Beane for the feature win. Trey Robb passed another
test in his development of a sprint car driver. The 13
year-old Robb flipped his sprinter last week for the first
time of the year. He wasn't seriously injured, but there is no
way to know how a driver will respond after his first flip.

Lacey Repeats at Tulsa Speedway: Steve Lacy drew on his
experience behind the wheel to pass Brandon Pittman and leader
Bobby Wolfe to win his second straight modified A feature
Friday at Tulsa Speedway. After early leader Richard Bias blew
an engine on lap 15 to bring out a yellow, second year
modified driver Wolfe took over the lead with Brandon Pittman
close behind. Pittman tried to challenge Wolfe in turns three
and four of lap 18. Both drivers skated to the center of the
track and third place Lacy gunned his modified past them on
the inside groove to take lead for his fourth victory of the
season. Pittman got by Wolfe on lap 19 for second. (Tulsa

Outlaw Speedway Practice Suspended: Due to the high
temperatures, the rise in fuel prices and the lack of rain in
the last four weeks Outlaw Motor Speedway will suspend
Wednesday night practices at this time. However, Outlaw Motor
Speedway will continue to allow practices after the races each
Friday night as time and weather permits. The lights will be
left on for a minimum of 30 minutes after the last race,
unless there are no cars practicing. We hope to resume
Wednesday night practices later in the summer or early fall
and we would like to thank everyone that participated in the
practices. (Outlaw Motor Speedway)

Franz wins Oklahoma Xtreme Nationals: Brian Franz of
Newton Kansas proved he is the driver to beat as he dominated
the opening night of the Xtreme Nationals preliminary feature
Saturday night at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City. With
his victory, Franz will sit on the pole position for Sunday
afternoons $5000 to win Xtreme Nationals feature finale.
By virtue of earning the most points accumulated from both
sets of heat races that were ran earlier in the evening, Franz
and Ada Oklahoma's Shawn Brassfield started on the front row
for the twenty lap qualifying feature with Franz taking the
lead as the green flag fell on the twenty-four car field.
Fourth starting George White, Eddie Martin, Brassfield and Bud
Longpine gave chase as the two time and defending National
Championship Racing Association modified champion Franz
quickly opened up a three car length advantage. The battle for
the runner up position changed for several laps as White ran
the high side while Martin drove down low, both trading
position before White finally took of second for good on lap
four.
Lap 5 saw sixth starting Paul White start to make his move
towards the front, passing Longpine for fifth and then making
his way around Martin for third one lap later.
Lap 7 saw the first of two caution flags fall when Scott
Green of Derby Kansas spun in turn four. The attempted restart
saw Green again get sideways, this time in turn two. Jerry
Hoffman, and speedway regulars Stanley Reed Jr. and Tony
Anderson had nowhere to go and were also collected sending all
four to the tail end of the field on the restart.
With Franz up front on the restart it G. White, P. White,
Martin and Longpine giving chase as the leader quickly opened
a five car length advantage. By the races midway point, Franz
had everything under control as he opened up almost a half
straightway lead but the battle for the runner-up position was
a seesaw battle as G.White (down low), P. White (down low) and
Martin (up high) all challenged each other throughout the last
half of the race. Martin would take over the runner-up
position by driving up top coming out of turns one and two,
only to see G. White regain the position in turns three and
four. P. White would take over the third spot from Martin on
lap fourteen and battled brother George the rest of the way.
Back up front it was all Franz as he cruised the final six
laps to take the half stretch victory over G. White. P. White
came home third with Martin settling for fourth. Kenneth Cox
worked his way up from his ninth starting position to take
fifth while Greg Stephens of Wichita Kansas, Gary Clark and
twenty-first starting Jason Hughes rounded out the top eight
and are locked into Sunday afternoons big $5000 to win thirty
lap Xtreme Nationals.
The first set of ten lap heat races for the seventy car
field were won by Kevin Rowland, Brassfield, Martin, Alan
Sharpensteen, Mickey Lassiter and Longpine. Passing points and
finishing points were tabulated from heat race action with a
complete inversion set for the second set of heat races with
the highest accumulated in points starting on the back of
those heat races. The winners of those ten lap heat races were
Franz, Scott Drake, Billy Turner, Greg Stephens, Gary Clark
and Alan Oliva.
In the supporting championship sprint division, the first
set of heat races for the fifteen car field were won by Mike
Goodman and Danny Smith while Whit Gastineau and Kenneth
Walker won the second set of inverted heat races. The first
factory stock heat races were won by Terry Osborn and Justin
Allen while Allen and Shawn Jorski bested the field in the
second inverted heat races. (David Smith, Jr.

Jennings
Suspended at SFS, Wood wins: Joe Wood Jr. fought off the
competition as well as the track in getting his first super
sprint feature win of the season. Jennings chose to venture
high through the rough part of the turn on the restart and was
lucky not to wreck the car. Jennings lost several places in
the bobble, and Wood was off to the races. Wood moved up to
fifth in the super sprint standings, while Jennings has put
several solid showings together in recent weeks. The 17-year
old cousin of Speedway veteran Danny Jennings won his first
heat race two weeks ago. Jennings, a five-time speedway
champion, was black flagged and then suspended for two weeks
Friday night during his super sprint heat race. Track
officials black flagged the popular and normally mild-mannered
Jennings after he was ruled to have intentionally stalled his
car, forcing a caution flag. Jennings was then suspended for
what track officials called "inappropriate behavior." In the
championship sprint division, Whit Gastineau won his second A
feature of the season, moving up to second place in the point
standings. Gastineau also finished third in the super sprint
class, where he is fourth in the point standings. (Results and

SFS seeing Red Flags Incidents up: One of the scariest and
rarest sights in auto racing is the red flag. It is an
indication that such a serious wreck has occurred that all
cars must shut down their engines while emergency crews and
track officials rush to the scene. This season at State
Fair Speedway, the red flag has become old hat. In last Friday
night's super sprint feature race, the red light was turned on
three times in the first four laps. "There have been seasons
when we have gone weeks without one red light," speedway
promoter Lanny Edwards said. "We have taken more drivers to
the hospital this season than we have the last two years
combined." Most of these wrecks have occurred in the
sprint car division. Their open-wheel and roofless chassis
make it nearly impossible to keep a sprint car's wheels on the
track during a crash. The result becomes a series of flips and
rolls. (NewsOK)

- Racing all in the
family: Jason Gerhard is carrying on a family
tradition as he embarks on his second season in the
aggressive pure stock division at Enid Motor Speedway.
“Racing runs in the family,’’ said Gerhard. “My dad, mother,
brother, uncle, grandpa ... all raced and now I race.’’
Gerhard’s grandfather, Bill Gerhard, competed in the 1960s
and his father, David, and uncle, Bill W. Gerhard, have been
competing in the factory stock division since the 1980s. His
mother, Terry, and brother, Kevin, have tried their hands at
pure stock. According to Gerhard, he enjoyed watching his
father and uncle race when he was young. He became smitten
with the sport, and like many young race fans, fell under
the spell of racing heroes, including Richard “Pooder’’
Hopkins, Joey Brochu and “Big John’’ Tipping. “I loved
coming out and watching them race,’’ said Gerhard. As the
years passed, Gerhard departed the grandstands and joined
his father in the pits where he started assisting with the
race car. Changing tires and working on the fast rides
initiated him into the sport as a member of the Gerhard
Racing Team crew. “I couldn’t wait until I was 16 and could
race,’’ said the adventurous young driver. “I love racing,
especially listening to the motor rev up. I look forward to
coming out here every week.’’ Gerhard pilots the fast No.
47J pure stock. The car is an Oldsmobile Cutlass powered by
a motor built by Bill Morrow. The car number is significant
as it was his grandfather’s number. (Enid

- Enid's Weekend Racing Wrap:
Johnnie "The Rocket" Rauschenberg continued his dominance in mini stock as
he piloted his Dunsworth Machine powered Mustang to his tenth "A" feature
win this season in racing action at Enid Motor Speedway Saturday night.
Rauschenberg's winning streak prompted Enid Collision Center to place a $100
on him. If any driver can beat Rauschenberg they will claim the extra purse.
However if Rauschenberg can continue his reign for an additional four weeks
he will claim the bounty. "My car ran good tonight and outlasted the field,"
said Rauschenberg. Kevin Legleiter sped off the pole and took command of the
swift race. Legleiter hooked up his Ford in a fast groove and looked
unbeatable. But the man on the move was the hard charging Rauschenberg. He
marched from the middle of the field and drove up on the leader's bumper in
lap six. Rauschenberg took the point with a daring low charge in lap seven
and set-up a straight away advantage in a single lap. He artfully maneuvered
through lapped traffic and despite a lap 12 caution took a powerful lead to
the line. John Pankratz raced to second followed by Legleiter, Danny
Portwood, and Shawn Walton. Legleiter was black flagged for rough driving,
which saw Monty Lanning inherit fifth. (More at

- Outlaw Motor Speedway Recap: Up
front was the place to be for the feature winners in dirt track racing at
Outlaw Motor Speedway here Friday night. Three of the four feature
victors started in the front row with two in the pole position. Carl Conley,
of Porter, came from the inside on row three to capture the checkered flag
in the Economy Modified division. He had the lead after the first lap,
charging in front down the backstretch. Conley held off Shannon Reheard,
Muskogee, for the win. In winning his fourth feature of the year, the
defending division points champion had a 1.17 second lead at the end. Jerry
Thompson, of Fort Smith, continued his recent dominance in the Modified
Division, holding off the field, picking up his second feature win in a
week. He won last Friday’s main event and followed that with a fifth place
finish in the 20-lap Fourth of July race on Saturday night. Thompson
survived two yellow flag restarts to hold off Muskogee’s Tate Cole.
Muskogee’s Gary Andrews and Mike Withrow continued their battle for the
division points lead, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Andrews went
into the evening with a 12-point lead over Withrow (1,478-1,466). Andrews
was second in his heat while Withrow was fourth in his. Dale Richardson
probably enjoyed one of the widest margins of victory in the Factory Stock A
Feature this season. At the finish of the 20-lap chase, the Muskogee driver
had a 10-plus second lead over current division points leader Tim Sands,
also of Muskogee. Not even a caution flag on lap six failed to slow
Richardson. At that time, he had a five-second edge over David Whittle,
Muskogee, who retired after the yellow flag was pulled out when David
Vinson, Checotah, lost a wheel in turn two. He went to a two-second lead on
lap nine and pulled away from the field from there. Richardson took the lead
from the outside first row position. Sands had the pole. It was Richardson’s
second feature victory of the season. Sands had four wins. James Gillean,
Muskogee, continued his winning ways in the Pure Stock chase. He had a four-
second advantage over Jason Ward, Tahlequah, at the checkered flag. However
the results are not official as the top 10 finishers were tore down and
inspected late into Saturday morning. Gillean has won six features
this season, tied with division points leader Lynn Combs, Fort Gibson, for
the most at the 3/8ths mile oval this season. (Fore More Information

Stater Smith Wins Feature: George White had a big win in
the USA modified A feature Friday night at State Fair
Speedway, but the Fort Worth, Texas, driver has his eyes set
on something bigger. White's win was really just a
tuneup for next Saturday's Xtreme Super National modified race
at the speedway, which pays $5,000 to win and can qualify a
driver for October's $25,000 modified feature race. "I race at
big shows all over the country," White said. "But every week
before a big show, we go to the track and run in their weekly
race." White has built a reputation as one of the best
modified drivers in the country and will compete later this
month in Batesville, Ark., for $100,0000. But Friday night,
White has hands full trying hold off the Speedway's Randy
Timms. (Results and more at

race. Drivers Taron Bean and Andrew Evans crashed on the back

paramedics spent nearly 15 minutes talking with Bean and
trying to ease him out of his crumpled car. Bean was conscious
and walking at the time he was helped out his car but was
taken to the hospital to be checked out. Evans appeared
uninjured. Kenneth Walker went on to win the champ sprint
feature, giving him a track leading six feature wins in one
class. In the pro stock class, Stanley Reed Jr. got his ailing
engine back in shape Friday night. Reed won the A feature
finishing ahead of Tony Osborn and Steve Smith. Super sprint
driver Chris Burns won his third super sprint A feature race
of the season. Robert Sellers finished second with points

Weekend Recap: The chase for the Modified Division points
lead at Outlaw Motor Speedway is becoming a weekly battle
between a pair of Muskogee drivers. Defending points champion

Fan Injury results from
Burns at OMS: Pam Yutterman, the mother of Modified
driver Johnny Yutterman, Van Buren, Ark., was in good
condition in a Tulsa hospital Saturday evening after being
burned in a pit accident at Outlaw Motor Speedway late Friday
night. According to speedway officials, she was injured when a
pan full of burning fuel was accidentally tossed on her after
it ignited while members of her son’s pit crew was priming the
carburetor on Yutterman’s car. She received emergency
treatment at the track and was then life-flighted to Hillcrest
Burn Center, in Tulsa, OK. "We were trying to restart his car
and was priming the carburetor when a pan of gas caught on
fire," said Yutterman’s husband, R.L. Yutterman. "One of the
pit crew tried to get rid of it and didn’t see her standing
behind us." "The gas splashed on her. She acted by dropping to
the ground and rolling. The fire did not go out until I laid
on top of her and put it out with some towels." Yutterman said
his wife was doing well Saturday evening, up and walking
around. (PR)

Merrill
wins SUPR late model feature: With a field nearly full of
out of town drivers, it was Sallisaw's Raymond Merrill that
won Monday night's Series of United Professional Racers late
model feature race. The SUPR series came to Oklahoma for the
first time since the Louisiana-based series was founded in
1990. The SUPR series brought racers from Louisiana, Texas,
Nebraska, and Arizona to compete Monday night. Of the
22-driver field, only three were from Oklahoma. Ada's Shawn
Brassfield and Oklahoma City's Stanley Reed Jr. also raced.
"It was a tough field of drivers tonight," Merrill said. "I
was ready for the race to hurry up and get over while I still
had the lead." Merrill passed Ronny Adams on lap 7 of the
35-lap feature race and built a solid lead. But Merrill soon
found lap traffic with Adams and National Championship Racing
Association points leader Al Purkey gaining ground. (NewsOK)

Fair Speedway features late models for 4th of July Special:
Tonight's late-model races at State Fair Speedway will give
race fans a little bit of the old and a little bit of the new.
Speedway promoter Lanny Edwards will put on a special Fourth
of July show featuring the late-model car classes of the
National Championship Racing Association, the Midwest Late
Model Racing Association and the Southern United Professional
Racing series. The NCRA, which used to be one of the biggest
dirt track racing circuits in the country and a staple at the
speedway, hasn't raced in Oklahoma City since 2002. The NCRA
was made widely popular by their modified divisions in the
1970s and 80s. Coming into tonight, Al Purkey leads the NCRA
standings over Johnny Bone Jr. by just 50 points. David Ashley
of Zachary, La., sits atop the SUPR standings with Kenny
Merchant of West Monroe, La., in second. The USA modifieds and
factory stocks will also race tonight. The races start at 7
p.m. and will be immediately followed by a fireworks show. (NewsOK)

McClelland Wins in Lawton: Sean McClelland captured his
fourth American Bank of Oklahoma American Sprint Car Series
Sooner Region feature victory of the season in stirring
fashion by battling past race long leader Danny Jennings on
the final round to top Saturday night’s 25-lap main event at
Lawton Speedway. After Jennings led the opening 23 rounds,
McClelland dove underneath the 2002 Sooner Region champion
entering turn three on the 24th round. The pair raced
wheel-to-wheel, brushing tires several times before McClelland
edged into the lead as the pair charged down the backstretch
on the final lap. “I found a little bit up top coming off of
two and I kinda started catching him, I wasn’t sure if he was
slowing down or if I was getting faster,” current ASCS Sooner
Region point leader McClelland commented in victory lane. “But
I kept catching him and decided to hell with it, let’s go for
it.” (WhoWon)

Jennings Wins ASCS: With just two laps to go, Danny
Jennings seemingly came from nowhere to pass Gary Flatt on
Friday night for his first super sprint feature race win of
the season at State Fair Speedway. Of course, feature race
wins are nothing new to the Norman driver. Jennings has won
five championship and countless feature races at the Speedway
and has done plenty of winning this season on the prestigious
American Sprint Car Series. But Jennings' focus on the ASCS
this season (he is second in points in the Sooner region) and
a little bad luck have kept him out of the speedway's winner
circle. "It felt really good to get a win," Jennings said. "It
was about time I guess." In the pro stocks, Tony Osborn
won his second feature race of the season while finishing
ahead of Steve Smith. Stanley Reed Jr. won his fourth USA
modified feature of the year. Reed increased his first-place
points lead over Michael Reed by nearly 400 points.
Championship sprint driver Kenneth Walker notched a
speedway-leading fifth feature race win of the season. Gary
Owens finished second. (Results and more at
