NCRA races tonight at Brill Motor Speedway: Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker will host a National Championship Racing Association dirt car event Saturday (May 30). The NCRA’s new Sport Modified division will compete. The cars are similar in appearance to the Limited Modifieds, which run each week at Brill Motor Speedway and State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City. Brill Motor Speedway’s regular points races for Champ Sprints, Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Mini Stocks will also race. (The Oklahoman)

Lloyd Buntin wins first race at SFS; edging Steve Smith: The USA Modifieds put on a show Friday night at State Fair Speedway. With multiple lead changes and hard racing throughout the pack, Lloyd Buntin broke Steve Smith’s two-race win streak and took his first victory at the Oklahoma City track. Fans cheered for Buntin as he crossed the scales and climbed out of his car to thank the crowd. "I’m very excited…to win in Oklahoma City, it’s just overwhelming," Buntin said. Tulsa firefighter wins shopping spree with "Smoke" aka Tony Stewart: His parents will get their first computer, his daughter her own Blu-ray Disc player and the community's church a new video camera to record Sunday's service. In the time it took him to fill out a short entry blank at an Oklahoma Office Depot, Eddie Bell will also have the laptop he needs to run his residential construction contracting business more efficiently. All of this was made possible through a $14,000 shopping spree (At the Speed of Smart) awarded to Bell through Office Depot and its driver Tony Stewart, co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing. Bell, also the battalion chief for his city's fire department, disrupted business as usual with Stewart on Friday at one Office Depot in Charlotte, N.C., to push a tricked out shopping cart through aisles of office supplies. The cart -- dubbed the Cart of Tomorrow -- resembled Stewart's Cup Series car and like the one Stewart will race in Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Bell's shopping cart was equipped with an "in-cart" camera and painted up with the Office Depot logos and decals. Arkansas driver wins first leg of North-South Shootout at OMS: Johnny Bone won the first leg of the three-race North-South shootout at Outlaw Motor Speedway here late Friday night. The shootout makes its final stop today in Monett, Mo. The second round was Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Fort Smith, Ark. The winner of the series will be determined by combining the finishes in three features for an average. A bonus of $1,000 goes to the winner. The other four finishers will also receive bonus money. To be eligible for the big purse, the drivers have to compete in all three races. (Muskogee Phoenix)

Mike Northrup returns to speedway after accident: Just a few short weeks after being involved in one of the most spectacular accidents in the brief history of Outlaw Motor Speedway, Mike Northrup returned to the track, not as a driver, but as an employee. Northrup became the track’s steward — the one who oversees the on-track activities — when Jeff Howell left to follow his son’s high school football career. As steward, Northrup is the man drivers seek when they perceive a problem or feel they have been wronged, such as receiving a black flag for a driving infraction. “They (drivers) first go after Mike, not me when they get a flag,” said track flag-man Phil Branan. “They get around to me later, but he’s the first person they see and they vent their feelings on him.” (More at Muskogee Phoenix)

ASCS Sooner Region vs ASCS Lone star shootout; Danny Wood to skip Devils Bowl event: The Red River Shootout lives on! Not on the gridiron this time though, where Oklahoma and Texas have squared off in a larger-than-life battle for more than a century. This time, it's a pair of dirt tracks that teams from Oklahoma, Texas and beyond will battle it out on as the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region locks horns with the ASCS Lone Star Region for two nights of competition this weekend. On Friday night, Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway hosts the opening leg of the ASCS Red River Shootout. Then on Saturday night, the Sooner and Lone Star forces migrate south of the border to Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX. Both nights offer up a $2,000 winner's share, with $1,500 for the runner-up and $1,000 for third. All "A" Feature starters will earn at least $300 on both nights. While bragging rights are on the line, both series are certain to see big shakeups in the championship point battles at this early stage of the season. With just one event in the books, Norman, Oklahoma's Danny Wood is out to the early lead in ASCS Sooner Region points. South of the Red River, the inaugural pair of ASCS Lone Star events have been logged into the books and it's two-time ASCS Sooner Region champion Kevin Ramey of Fort Worth out of the gates quickly with the early lead. But, it's quite likely that both series will have new point leaders by the end of the weekend. While Wood could take in Friday's action at State Fair Speedway, he's scheduled to be in Little Rock on Saturday. And Ramey is still questionable for this weekend's competition after suffering a broken leg in an April 25 Cowtown crash. Friday's action at State Fair Speedway goes green at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday's card at Devil's Bowl Speedway getting under way at 8:00 p.m. (ASCS PR)

Results: Hicks sweeps Pro Stocks at State Fair Speedway

Wild night of racing at State Fair Speedway: Track officials hurried the start of racing to beat incoming weather, but yellow flags and three rollovers in the Championship Sprint division slowed the program’s progress. Terry Holland went for a wild ride flipping in turn one, and in turn two, corner worker Ross Moore went running for his life as Michael Gossman spun into the infield. Gossman and Moore went to Putnam City High School together, making it a somewhat scary reunion for the two. “I seen him running, but I knew I was gonna miss him,” Gossman said. “They’ve got a dangerous job out there, but he knows the danger.” In the same race, Holland flipped his Champ Sprint for the second time this season, and he was the only person to go upside down in 2009 until rookie driver Perry Pickard went end over end in the open-wheel division’s A feature. OMS celebrates 1st year under ownership: Outlaw Motor Speedway will celebrate its first-year of its current ownership era tonight with a special Mini-Stock Mania race. Mini-Stocks that race at Tri-State and Crawford County in Arkansas and Sapulpa and Creek County (Sapulpa) race tracks will compete, Mini Stock rules from those tracks will apply. Free-Style Motorcyclist Cody Elkins will also perform at intermission. He will do X-Games style stunts and jumps. Racing at the track which was purchased at a bank auction last spring by Lynn Skinner and Danny Womack starts at 7 p.m. with hot laps. “We’ve had a successful start,” Skinner said in reflecting on the past year. “Our primary goal has been to provide entertainment to our fans and I feel we’ve accomplished that through a variety of special programs and presentations. “Our goal as we continue to go forward is to improve on our operations and give our racing fan base and newcomers to our track a special place to come to on a weekly basis. We’re always striving to improve our shows.” (Muskogee Phoenix)

Weather slows attendance: State Fair Speedway promoter Lanny Edwards said the economy isn’t hurting his business. "It isn’t good, but what’s affecting us more than anything is the weather,” Edwards said. Friday’s forecast called for a 100-percent chance of rain, but the downpour came after the racing. Edwards said the average free night brought in 1,500 or more spectators, but on Friday only a few more than 600 came. (The Oklahoman)
