Stephens drives to Hobby Stock feature win at OMS: It
was no contest in the special Hobby Stock Shootout at Outlaw
Motor Speedway here early Sunday morning as Brookin Stephens
smoked the field to pick up the $2,000 first place money.
Stephens, from Spiro, had a six second advantage over
Muskogee's Randy Moses II, and the rest of the field at the
checkered flag. That margin came after a restart on lap 22
wiped out an early six second lead Stephens had gained at the
midway point of the race. After a fourth lap caution, Stephens
led a quartet of drivers in running away from the rest of the
field. The hard charger, Moses, Dale Richardson (Muskogee) and
Lynn Combs (Fort Gibson) set a torrid early pace. Combs
finally fell out of the competition on lap nine, leaving it a
three-car chase. Stephens started pulling away from the field
on lap 10 and never was threatened after that. (OMS PR)

ASCS2 to run at Creek County Speedway: The American
Small Car Series (ASCS2) has announced the addition of five
special Sunday night cards of Micro Sprint racing action to
Creek County Speedway's 2007 schedule in Sapulpa, OK, with
three classes of Micros taking to the ¼-mile clay oval on each
occasion. ASCS2, an offshoot of the nation's most prolific
Sprint Car sanctioning body, the American Sprint Car Series,
has been established to promote and build the Micro Sprint
segment of auto racing throughout Oklahoma and the surrounding
region. "Many of our Sprint Car drivers of tomorrow are racing
Micros today," according to ASCS President and founder Emmett
Hahn. "It's a fun, affordable and competitive form of racing,
and it's important to cultivate this form of racing." Each
ASCS2 event will be comprised of three classes of cars
including the 600cc Outlaws, Non-Wing and Restricted "A"
Class. Passing points will be utilized to determine feature
starting lineups at each event. Creek County Speedway will
host the series on a monthly basis, with the first event
taking place on Sunday night, April 29. Ensuing events will
occur on June 3, July 1, August 5 and September 2. Talks are
in progress with several additional tracks throughout the
region for other potential ASCS2 dates. (ASCS PR)
Initial Outlaw Motor Speedway points incorrect: Please
note that the Championship Points totals from Saturday's race
March 31 are not correct. When we upgraded the Drivers
Information Software this winter and began testing the program
the points were put in the computer wrong and we forgot to
change them back. We apologize for an inconvenience but we
will have the points corrected by the end of the week. The
corrections will be very minimal to the overall points. (OMS

Shryock sweeps USMTS in Enid: Fans were treated to
an awesome afternoon of racing Sunday, April 1, as the USMTS
Southern Series wrapped up their inaugural weekend
doubleheader at the Enid (Okla.) Speedway Park. With 57
entries from eight States on the ground and friendly weather
in the sky, it was a perfect ending to a great weekend.
Speaking of perfect, Kelly Shryock made it a clean sweep of
the weekend by picking up the first-place paycheck of $3,000
Sunday to bring his weekend earnings to $5,000 after also
claiming Saturday's $2,000-to-win main event. While the
eight-time defending O'Reilly USMTS national champion from
Fertile, Iowa, led every lap from the pole on Saturday, his
work was much harder on Sunday with a seventh-place starting
spot among 23 other drivers with stellar pedigrees. Terry
Phillips of Springfield, Mo., garnered the most Home Pride
Passing Points for the second day in a row, then started the
Holley "A" Main from the outside of the third row. While
polesitter Greg Skaggs of Bixby, Okla., jumped out to the lead
at the drop of the green flag, Phillips immediately suffered a
flat tire and was forced to rejoin the field from the back of
the pack. Skaggs continued to lead throughout the first 19
laps before Shryock tracked him down and seized the top spot
on lap 20. Shryock held his own at the front while several
drivers gave chase. New Sharon, Iowa's Zack VanderBeek started
13th but worked his way though the field to overtake Shryock
early in the race, but a caution flag erased the pass and
showed Shryock the faster high line. From there, Shryock put
the preferred line to use and worked his way to the front to
earn his third win in four USMTS Southern Series events.
Twenty-one-year-old sensation Jeremy Payne of Springfield,
Mo., pressured Shryock at the end, but had to settle for the
runner-up spot for the second time in as many days. Phillips
kept the crowd entertained as he sliced his way through the
field to bounce back to a third-place finish at the checkers.
Jack Sullivan of Greenbrier, Ark., took fourth while
18th-starting Tommy Weder Jr. of Woodward, Okla., rounded out
the top-5 and earned the Olympic Fire Protection Hard Charger
honors. Jason Hughes of Colcord, Okla., finished sixth;
VanderBeek was seventh; Johnny Bone Jr. of Pea Ridge, Ark.,
was eighth; Darren Hacker of Woodward, Okla., grabbed ninth;
and Steve Holzkamper of Gentry, Ark., completed the top-10.
The next USMTS Southern Series event will take place on
Friday, April 27, at the Motorama Speedway near Beaumont,
Texas, as part of a Lone Star State tripleheader. On Saturday,
April 28, the USMTS Southern Series will invade the Gator
Motorplex in Willis, then move on to 105 Speedway in
Cleveland, Texas, on Sunday, April 29. All three races will
pay $2,000 to win and a minimum $200 to start. (USMTS PR)

Shryock dominates in Enid: In front of a
standing-room-only crowd, Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa,
captured the USMTS Southern Series main event on Saturday at
the Enid Speedway Park. The eight-time defending O'Reilly
USMTS national champion led all 25 laps from the pole position
and pocketed $2,000 for his second victory of the 2007 season.
Jeremy Payne of Springfield, Mo., started the Holley "A" Main
from the outside of the front row, then spent the rest of the
contest unsuccessfully trying to run down the No. 3 Skyrocket
of Shryock. Jason Hughes of Colcord, Okla., finished third
while Randy Timms of Wheatland, Okla., earned the Olympic Fire
Protection Hard Charger honors by racing to a fourth-place
finish from 18th on the starting grid. Tim Karrick of Bashor,
Kan., rounded out the top-5 finishers. The action continues
tomorrow (Sunday, April 1) for part 2 of the weekend
doubleheader with gates opening at 12 noon with racing at
3:30. A top prize of $3,000 awaits the winner of Sunday's
finale. The Enid Speedway Park is located 2.5 miles north of
U.S. Hwy. 412 on U.S. hwy. 81, then 0.5 mile east on W. Oxford
(at the Garfield County Fairgrounds). Race day information is

ASCS Sooner Region adds pair of Creek Country dates:
Located just southwest of Tulsa, OK, Creek County Speedway
played a pivotal role in the formative years of the American
Sprint Car Series back in the 1990's. So it's only fitting
that the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region has
added a pair of events to the 2007 schedule at the racy
semi-banked, ¼-mile clay oval in Sapulpa, OK. The
highly-competitive series will take to Creek County Speedway
for the first time this year on Sunday night, May 27, with a
return engagement slated for Saturday night, September 22. The
May 27 date makes for a Memorial Day weekend double, as the
series will be in action at Mid-America Speedway in South
Coffeyville, OK, on Saturday night, May 26. The September 22
date will lead into the series season finale two weeks later,
a two-night stand at Mid-America Speedway on October 5-6. (ASCS

Oklahoma's centennial
sponsored Busch Car:
Al Smith III has always had a passion for motor sports and
NASCAR racing. It began when Smith and his father watched
stock car races at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City. Smith
will share that enthusiasm with the Sooner State through the
No. 23 NASCAR Busch Series team owned by Keith Coleman Racing.
The team's race car, which will be driven by Brad Keselowski
in 2007, will be decked out with the Oklahoma Centennial logo
prominently displayed on its hood, trunk lid and above the
rear bumper. Smith, of Edmond, serves as the team's executive
vice president. The centennial logo also will be put on the
team's 18-wheel car transporter, pit equipment, driver and
crewmember uniforms and the Keith Coleman Racing Web site. The
season ends in November. There is no cost to the state of
Oklahoma for the centennial sponsorship. Space was donated by
Smith and Keith Coleman Racing. "This car is a unique way to
bring attention to Oklahoma's centennial before a national
audience and is yet another wonderful demonstration of
Oklahoma's pride," Gov. Brad Henry said. A centennial
logo-adorned car and transporter was displayed Wednesday on
the state Capitol's south side. (NewsOK.com)
