Taylor wins in Lawton ASCS Sooner Region race: Former American Sprint Car Series National champion Travis Rilat tried to take it away. But Gary Taylor was not to be denied, as he reached victory lane in Saturday night's 25-lap American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region feature event at Lawton Speedway. The Washington-state native turned "Okie" survived a lap 23 charge from Rilat and then took the checkered flag in front of Garry Lee Maier to snare his first career ASCS Sooner Region win aboard Mike and Megan Eubanks' Wesmar-powered Tel-Star Communications No. 5* Triple-X chassis.

ASCS Sooner Region set for OKC/Lawton Weekend: The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region forces will be making tracks up and down the H.E. Bailey Turnpike this weekend as the series embarks upon the first of three Oklahoma City-Lawton weekend doubles. On Friday night, the series takes to Oklahoma City's 3/8-mile State Fair Speedway clay oval. Then on Saturday night, it's a quick run down Interstate 44 to Lawton Speedway's ¼-mile clay oval. The pair of tracks have combined to host approximately one-third of the ASCS Sooner Region events since the series inception in 2001, with 16 events at State Fair Speedway and 19 events at Lawton Speedway. Last year, weather limited the ASCS Sooner Region to just one event at each track, with Danny Jennings picking up his first ASCS win at Oklahoma City and Kevin Ramey adding his fifth Sooner Region score at Lawton. There have been seven different winners in as many ASCS Sooner Region events at State Fair Speedway dating back to 2005, while Ramey and Sean McClelland have split the six Sooner Region features contested at Lawton Speedway since the start of the 2005 season. The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region kicked off the 2008 season this past Saturday night, with National Tour contender Travis Rilat of Forney, TX, besting the 41-car field by beating defending ASCS Sooner Region champion Brian McClelland to the stripe. While Tulsa's Brian McClelland fared the best of the 2008 Sooner Region title contenders in the season opener, others that started out in strong fashion included Graham, TX, shoe Kolt Walker (4th), Glenpool, OK, racer Matt Covington (7th) and Fort Worth's J.P. Bailey (8th). Friday's action at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway fires off at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday's event at Lawton Speedway going green at 8:00 p.m. (ASCS PR)

Wins in Lawton: Sean McClelland captured his fourth
American Bank of Oklahoma American Sprint Car Series Sooner
Region feature victory of the season in stirring fashion by
battling past race long leader Danny Jennings on the final
round to top Saturday night's 25-lap main event at Lawton
Speedway. After Jennings led the opening 23 rounds,
McClelland dove underneath the 2002 Sooner Region champion
entering turn three on the 24th round. The pair raced
wheel-to-wheel, brushing tires several times before
McClelland edged into the lead as the pair charged down the
backstretch on the final lap. "I found a little bit up top
coming off of two and I kinda started catching him, I wasn't
sure if he was slowing down or if I was getting faster,"
current ASCS Sooner Region point leader McClelland commented
in victory lane. "But I kept catching him and decided to
hell with it, let's go for it." (WhoWon)
