Local Man Chases NASCAR Dream
Press Release
Russell Henderson, 41 of Texarkana, TX who has been living in Ada, OK for the past year has been a NASCAR fan all his life. But the dream of one day racing as a career just seemed so out of reach....
So when the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a racecar for a real NASCAR team arose, Russell knew he could not pass it up.
After many phone conversation, & emails, Chris Lafferty owner of Lafferty Motorsports said he would take that chance. Lafferty then invited Henderson to participate in his driver development program in North Carolina.
“Have you ever known your worth, yet not look so good on paper? That's how I felt.” said Henderson. “I mean my resume isn't the best, and my finances are the pits, so why would anyone risk the chance on a guy like me.”
So Henderson and his family decided to go for broke and make the trip to North Carolina to give it a shot. 1,200 miles later they arrived in Concord, North Carolina where they met with Chris Lafferty.
On March 23 & 24 Henderson then went through a 2 day driver development program with Lafferty and his crew where he tested at the famous Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC. Henderson commented, he was a little nervous at first, but as soon as he was buckled in he relaxed and got down to business, saying that Lafferty made him feel at ease.
He was tested on race knowledge, communication, marketability as well as driving skill. “I wasn't sure what to expect when working with Russell, but he has pleasantly surprised us in his drive and determination.” Chris Lafferty said.
“I am so thankful to be given this opportunity to work with Chris Lafferty and Lafferty Motorsports, he has a lot of great people working with him, and he really knows what's what. With my family by my side and God's good grace I plan to make the most of this, and go as far as Chris is willing to take me. This is an awesome break for me” said Henderson.
Being new to the sport Mr. Henderson, is challenging his hometown, family, friends, and businesses to back him and be his champions, so he can be theirs. He hopes to see all of his TX, AR, LA, & OK neighbors at the track.
