29th Annual "Race For Life": A Race Night in Review

POCOLA, Okla. -- Our 37th consecutive season continued last Saturday night, June 14th, 2008 at the legendary Tri-State Speedway. The night"s events were underway about 7:30 PM. With more than four inches of rain that fell overnight on Friday, some extra track preparation was needed. By "A" feature racing time, the track was starting to get some shine to it although there were a few "soft" places in it that caused some rough areas.
Heat racing was run without any problems, which gave us time to give away another 27 program luck number prizes from Advance Auto Parts, Tri-State Speedway and Ed"s Sports Cards and More. After an intermission, during which numerous drivers have up their break to come into the stands with their helmets, in hand, to collect donations for St. Jude Children"s Research Hospital, the "A" features got underway, at 9:30 PM.
First up was the Road Runner feature in a time-shortened event, which also ended under yellow. Jay Anderson (36A- Springdale, AR) would finish third as Kyle McAlister (18K " Fort Smith, AR) ran strong with a second place finish. 15 year old Dakota Bandy (3B - Pocola, OK) captured the "A" Feature victory, which saw numerous events happen.
Next up were the Mini-Stocks, where 13 year old Dalton Pulliam (69 - Fort Smith, AR) captured his first win, as Ralph Williams (71 " Van Buren, AR) followed for second. Wesley Bourne (5B) would end up with a third place finish.
The Economy Modifieds took the track next. After their 20 lap feature, Clay Julian (00 " Ozark, AR) would once again capture the win, as George Martin (15 " Fort Smith, AR) finished second. Jeremy Vaughn (8 - Pocola, OK) would end up in third.
The Super Stocks were up next for their feature. Eric Beshoner (12 " Ft. Smith, AR) took home yet another winner"s pay check. Shane Hickey (96) wound up in second with Roy Roberts (116 " Alma, AR) finishing close behind in third.
Modified "A" feature cars were on the track next for their feature. This week, Jerred Havens (21 " Muskogee, OK) captured the area"s biggest weekly "A" Feature payout of $500, regardless of car count. Darwin Hale (B57 " Spiro, OK) finished in second with Larry Campbell (15 " Van Buren, AR) closing in.
Ronnie Palmer (15 " Pocola, OK) captured another "A" feature win in the Front Wheel Drives. Brandon Morris (14 " Booneville, AR) would finish second as Raymond Bieker (89 - Greenwood, AR) ran a strong race for third.
