Bomber Races At Altus Speedway Keep Getting Crazier

Press Release

ALTUS SPEEDWAY - Backwards race, Stunt Man race, Mattress race and a Musical Chair race. Where does Altus Speedway come up with these crazy ideas for races? 'We just ask the fans what they want to see the Bombers do' said speedway owner Joe Madore ' they have come up with some pretty wild ideas, like the Musical Chair race this saturday night, it came from one of our employees'. For the musical chair race drivers will circle the track till the music stops then race for a parking spot with one parking spot and one car eliminated each time the music stops. One thing that is allowed in this race, that most of us only wish we could do in real life, is drivers can push another car out of a parking spot.

Madore has created an entire class of cars for the 2008 racing season that is dedicated to what he calls 'novelty' races. The Bombers are pure stock 4,6 or 8 cylinder cars that most drivers have spent less than three hundred dollars to build. Andy Welch co-owner of Mad Auto in Altus whose business fields cars in all divisions at the speedway had this to say; 'I have a twenty thousand dollar Super Truck that I enjoy driving, but when I get behind the wheel of my hundred and fifty dollar Bomber the fun really begins. It's the kind of crazy driving and crashing we could never do in a real race car. It's a blast!'.

In the Drive Smart Super Stock class David Welch jr. of Altus won his fourth feature race of 2008, he was followed closely by 'Panda Joe' Schmitt from Lawton. Jim Dollar of Blair continues to lead the points chase with 1377-points, followed by Shawn Kiley of altus with 1320-points, David Welch with 1176-points, Kyle Hilliard of Altus with 1002-points, Buckshot Ybarra rounds out the top five with 861-points.

Brian Morey of Altus extended his points lead in the Bar-S Thunderstox class with a feature win Saturday night. He was followed to the checkered flag by Kendall Holt, Kenny Holt, Kevin New and Billy Robbins. Morey continues to lead the points race with 1365-points, Kenny Holt of Blair moved into second place with 1332-points, Ed Dennis of Altus dropped one place to third with 1320-points, Kevin New of Altus is in fourth with 1284-points and James Welch of Altus hangs on to fifth with 1251-points.

Fourteen year old Cole Dennis of Altus won the May 10th main event in the Super Sonic Charger class. Finishing behind him were Ben Bates, Tyler Heskett, Emmitt Stinnett and William Liley. Heskett from Roosevelt leads in the season points race. Liley from Altus trails by 57-points, Dennis is 96-points behind Heskett and Stinnett trails by 105-points.

Jacob Welch of Altus won the main event in The Putnam Toyota Hornet class. Daneen Heskett of Roosevelt came in second, James Payne of Altus was third and Christy Walbeck of Altus came in fourth place in her first ever race.

Shawn Kiley won the Bomber Stunt Man race after a turn one wreck involving the entire field resulted in a complete restart. Kiley completed a 180 degree spin after racing the first two laps in reverse then went on to win the ten lap race.

The USST Super Trucks will return to the speedway Memorial weekend for the annual Red River Super Truck Shootout, along with fifty lap races for all other classes and SKID CARS. Call the speedway or check online at www.altusspeedway.com for event information.
