Talladega Superspeedway officials announced the
track will be repaved next year, the first time since
1979, paving the way for it to be completed in time for
the 2006 UAW-Ford 500, race four in next year's Chase
for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup.
Many competitors on the NEXTEL Cup Circuit are
excited about the repaving, including NEXTEL Cup
Champion Tony Stewart, "Everyone should be able to hold
it wide-open all the way around the whole day. The
fastest car will rise to the top."
Many driver agree the
new surface will only improve racing at one of NASCAR's
most competitive tracks, "Talladega's surface is one
that the weather and other things have taken a toll on
over the years. Putting a new surface down should make
the racing even more exciting." Dale Jarrett said.
The project will be the speedway's fourth
repaving, beginning after the Aaron's 499 on April 30.
