Johnson Wins Daytona 500

Jimmie Johnson won a two-lap dash Sunday to won his first Daytona 500 at the 2.5 mile speedway. Johnson's crew chief Chad Knuas, who was ejected last week from the speedway for rules violation after failing post-qualifying inspection.  That was no problem, Johnson responded to those who questioned the #48 team. "After all the trouble this team has, and all the criticism, I'm dedicating this win to the haters of the 48 team," Johnson said. Unofficial results as followed.

Jimmie Johnson recorded first ever restrictor plate win in 17 race attempts. Dale Earnhardt Jr. led the most laps with 32 laps, most since fall Atlanta with142 laps. Before that Earnhardt led only 27 laps all of 2005. Clint Bowyer was the highest finishing rookie among the seven at 6th, Truex, Jr. in second at 16th, Brent Sherman (21st), David Stremme (28th), Reed Sorenson (29th), Denny Hamlin (30th), and J. J. Yeley (41st).

And notably... Single car team without a pit crew and driver Kirk Shelmerdine, former crew chief of the late Dale Earnhardt.  In his first Daytona 500 start as a driver in the Apex Electric Chevrolet finished 20th.
