œTHREE-SWEEP - Mark Martin has claimed all three poles and wins for Roush Fenway. Each year Martin claimed a pole…he also claimed the victory. Martin’s first win from pole to checkers for the team was in
1993 followed by repeat performances in 1994 and 1995.
œRoush Fenway is the first, and one of two teams, to win three races in a row at Watkins Glen. Hendrick is the other team with Jeff Gordon between 1997- 1999.
œThe team’s average starting position at Watkins Glen is 15.8 while their average finishing position is 15.5.
œTOP 10 RUN - The Roush Fenway Ford’s have completed 98.3 percent of their Cup laps run. They also finish inside the top 10/45.1 percent of the time.
œIn 147 starts, Roush Fenway has four Sprint Cup wins at a road course (the fourth win came at Infineon in 1997 with Mark Martin). That four makes up just three percent of the team’s 115 Sprint Cup wins.
NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES
œ2009 Watkins Glen line up - David Ragan/No. 6 Discount Tire Ford; Greg Biffle/No. 16 CitiFinancial Ford; Carl Edwards/No. 60 Save-A-Lot Ford.
œRoush Fenway Nationwide teams have 12 starts, two top-five and four top-10 finishes.
œMISSING LINK - In 31 road course starts, Roush Fenway has not won a Nationwide race at a road course.
œWatkins Glen is one of three current tracks that Roush Fenway does not have a Nationwide win at. Iowa and Montreal are the other two.
œTwo of Roush Fenway’s three Nationwide entries finished inside the top 10 last year. Matt Kenseth drove to a third-place finish while David Ragan crossed the line ninth.
œWINNER - Greg Biffle (competing in both the Nationwide and Cup races at Watkins Glen) won a truck race at The Glen in 2000 from the pole.
Roush Fenway Racing Story Ideas…
1.A Repeat Performance? - 2007 Nationwide champion Carl Edwards trails Kyle Busch by -207 points in the overall Nationwide point standings. So is a second championship out of the question for the Missouri-native?
Edwards has led the point standings from Las Vegas through the first Nashville race in 2009 and has kept within 100 points of Busch until the Milwaukee race six weeks ago. Looking at Edwards stats from last year, he garnered six of his seven Nationwide wins after the 21st race and had 11 top-five finishes in 15 starts. With 14 races to go in the 2009 season, and many unknowns ahead, don’t count Edwards and the No. 60 team out just yet. The next few weeks are sure to be an exciting race to the Nationwide championship. For more information contact Randy Fuller at (704)720-4635.

In Their Words…
Roush Fenway Sprint Cup drivers, and Chase contenders, sum up their season during press conferences at Pocono.
No. 16 3M driver GREG BIFFLE:
“We certainly know that we need to continue to run like we did this last weekend at Indy, and we feel like we’ve been a team capable of running like that - we have run like that, actually, this whole season - but the three races prior to that, obviously, a lot of issues. We had troubles on pit road, troubles with the car, track position, so we needed to get back on track and we did that at Indy. We like this race track. We really like Watkins Glen, Michigan. So, we feel like if we can keep these top-fives up, certainly that’s what we need to do to get in (to the Chase). The bad part is that Juan Pablo and Kasey Kahne are good here (Pocono), and of course they run good at the road course with Kasey winning at Sonoma. So, those are kind of the guys we’re racing for the Chase spots. Kyle Busch is not out of it. So, we’re up against some tough competition, but we know we have to not make mistakes, and finish these races up front.”
No. 17 DEWALT driver MATT KENSETH:
“I think we’re darn lucky to be 12th with as bad as things have been, really. I don’t know because I don’t look up numbers, but I bet you the average finish for a 12th-place car is way worse than it was last year at this time, so I feel lucky that we’re 12th. Even if we can continue to run more so like we did last week (Indy) and get some good finishes, like we ran here (Pocono) in the last race, but yet get the good finishes out of it. Hopefully, we’ll be able to stay up in there.
“I think, just on speed, we’re probably good enough to get into the Chase; I don’t think, right now, where we are on speed and performance and finishes, we’re a championship contender by any means. If we can run in the top 10 every week from now until through Richmond, I think we’ll make it. I’m not so sure we can run in the top 10 every week.
We’re always working on our stuff, trying to make it better. We know we’ve got to be able to catch the Hendrick cars. Those guys have been really good all year, including Ryan (Newman) and Tony (Stewart), so that’s really the group we’re aiming at. But there’s other guys that are picking up lately, too: the 00 and the 42 - those guys have all been performing better than we have, so we know we’ve got to pick it up every day to do that.”
No. 99 Aflac driver CARL EDWARDS:
“Our team, we’ve performed fairly well. We have not had the results that we had hoped to have. We’ve been steadily getting more and more competitive. That’s good. I’d definitely like to have some wins at this point of the season, but there’s nothing you can do about that, so for me and my team, right now, the mission is to make sure we’re solidly in the Chase and to make sure the progress we’ve made with our pit crew and our cars and all that, we can really apply it for the last 10 races. I didn’t know there was only [six] to go. That’s good.
We’re getting closer. I’ve been trying to keep my eyes off of that and focus on the races, and if we just have a few good races here.
We’ll be all right.”
