STATESVILLE, N.C. — Reed Sorenson started fourth at Dover in May then streaked to the lead on lap 29 leading four laps before running in the top 10 most of the race. An air hose catching on the No. 43 Dodge’s splitter during a stop with about 70 laps remaining ended the bid for a top-10 finish. The Richard Petty Motorsports team returns to the Monster Mile this weekend.
Sorenson Quotes:
SORENSON: “All of our Richard Petty Motorsports cars qualified in the top-10 at Dover last time. No reason we can’t do that again. Our race was really good for the most part. Leading laps was a lot of fun. I wouldn’t mind doing that again this weekend. Qualifying is more important at Dover than most places. You want a good pit stall because it gets pretty crowded on pit lane. But I like Dover and I think running as well as we did there last time gives you that extra confidence.”
RICHARD PETTY— SEVEN-TIME DOVER WINNER: “We got the qualifying down last time and did OK in the race. I think we ran better than we finished. That track isn’t an easy place. You’re going so fast that there isn’t much time to react if something happens in front of you. Those straight-aways aren’t very wide and there’s no where to go if you start seeing cars in front of you crash. It’s a 400-mile race now whereas before it was 500 miles. I think every driver is glad it isn’t that long any more and I bet some wish it were 300 miles.”

· Sorenson led laps 29-32 at Dover in May —the No. 43’s first laps led of the season. He was 10th with 100 laps remaining. He led for 39 laps in this race in 2006.
· The No. 9 team’s mechanical issues last weekend marked the Petty team’s only DNF of the 2009 season among four cars.
