Biography
Kasey Kahne (born April 10, 1980 in Enumclaw, Washington) is a driver in NASCAR's NEXTEL Cup series. He currently drives the #9 Dodge Dealers / UAW Dodge Charger/Dodge Avenger for Evernham Motorsports with teammates Scott Riggs and Elliott Sadler. Off the track, Kasey is active in charitable work and is a member of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. Kahne resides in Mooresville, North Carolina with his younger brother Kale Kahne. Kasey also has an older sister, Shanon Adams. He is also an owner in the World of Outlaws series, fielding a car for Joey Saldana.
There are some big shoes to fill, in that Kahne, who fought his way through a sticky contract issue with Ford, will replaced Bill Elliott in the No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge in 2004. Fortunately, Kahne will be able to rely on Jeremy Mayfield and a part-time Elliott for support in his first season.
This will be Evernham's second rookie experiment since forming his operation in 2001. Casey Atwood was hired to drive the 19 car upon its inception but was released when Evernham saw greener pastures in Mayfield. Kahne can only hope that Evernham has developed some patience since the Atwood debacle.
The odds of a win for this team are very slim this season, with Kahne's lack of experience being the biggest enemy. The step up from Busch to Nextel Cup is huge and demanding and will force Kahne to make the necessary adjustments
Kasey Kahne is a former USAC star, winning the Silver Crown Rookie of the Year award, and both the USAC Midget Series Champion and Driver of the Year honors. Kahne ran a limited Busch schedule in 2002 and competed in the series full-time in 2003, winning a race and finishing seventh in points. Kahne replaced the semi-retired Bill Elliott for the 2004 Nextel Cup season.
