Yates Racing still looking for sponsorship: Doug Yates and new business partner Max Jones, from the Jack Roush group, are still sweating out sponsorship for their two Cup teams, and it’s tough to make a go of it in NASCAR without solid financial backing. David Gilliland and Travis Kvapil, the two drivers, have done so-so this year. “We’re still searching, like we did when we decided to do this Dec. 1,” Jones said. “It’s not something you can just pick up the phone and call somebody. “But there’s a lot of excitement around it, and us running well has helped that. We’re moving up in the points, and I think there’s a great opportunity for a company out there to showcase their products with a car that’s running up in the front every weekend.” In this economic climate, it may be extremely difficult to find someone willing to put up the $20 million-plus it now takes to run a first-class team. Petty Enterprise NOT switch points between #43 and #45: Petty Enterprises officials say they will not ask NASCAR to approve a points swap between drivers Bobby Labonte and Kyle Petty. That means that Petty will need to qualify based on speed for the March 30 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway. The team could have swapped points between the drivers, helping get both into the field. (SceneDaily.com)
Stewart: I trust Kevin more than anybody else on that racetrack: Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick have made their peace, after Sunday’s hotly debated run-in in the final miles while the two were battling for the win at Bristol. Stewart said “the thing about our sport you don’t see in other sports, we don’t get a cool-down period. “You get that pure, raw emotion. A lot of times it doesn’t give us a chance to compare notes. “Obviously I was disappointed we were in a wreck. But of all people, I trust Kevin more than anybody else on that racetrack. “I know that anything that happens with us wasn’t intentional.” (Winston-Salem Journal)

Labbe leaves Bill Davis Racing: Richard “Slugger” Labbe, who was crew chief of the No. 27 Bill Davis Racing car, has parted ways with the team, a BDR spokesman confirmed Monday. The team, which had Jacques Villeneuve penciled in to drive before sponsorship fell through, skipped the race last week at Bristol. (SceneDaily.com)
Kyle Busch not attempting NASCAR triple-crown: While Busch holds a 72-point lead over Todd Bodine in the Truck series, Busch said he would not attempt to win the championship, thus ending any talk of a NASCAR triple crown. He is scheduled to run only the 14 companion truck races held at the same track and weekend as a Cup race. Busch has yet to make a decision whether he will run the entire Nationwide season this year. "It won't make sense to run a full Craftsman Truck Series schedule, but we have been looking at running the full Nationwide schedule this year and doing it," Busch said. "But if it wasn't for these past two weekends with blown tires or issues with the right front tire, then we would keep going, you know, and not have a question about it." Busch said the decision to run the complete Nationwide Series won't come until closer to the midway point of the season. (The Tennessean)
Childress spending off weekend hunting: Richard Childress is not only a successful NASCAR team owner, but an adventurous outdoorsman. Childress has gone big-game hunting in several out-of-the-way locations. This week, thanks to NASCAR's off week, Childress will follow his team's great showing at Bristol with a trip to Mongolia. "We have to concentrate on the next race, and that's next week," Childress said after the race. "I'm going to let all these guys worry about that while I'm in Mongolia." He leaves tomorrow, but said he'll be reachable by satellite phone should any emergencies arise in his absence. When asked if he'd be eating barbecue, Childress quipped: "Yeah, sheep." Boyer named #96 Crew Chief: Hall of Fame Racing officials announced that Steve Boyer will serve as crew chief for driver J.J. Yeley and the #96 DLP HDTV Toyota Camry beginning with the Goody’s Cool Orange 500 Sprint Cup Series race weekend March 29-30 at Martinsville. Boyer, who has worked within the engineering department at HoFR since December 2007, takes over for Brandon Thomas, who had served as crew chief since October 2006. Boyer is no stranger to the top of the pit box, as he was Sterling Marlin’s crew chief at Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates for the last six races of the 2004 Sprint Cup Series season and the entire 2005 campaign.(Hall of Fame Racing PR)
