NLPC files complaint against Combs, Vote or
Die
- The National Legal and Policy Center
filed a formal complaint with the Federal
Election Commission (FEC) against Sean Combs &
his Citizen Change organization Thursday,
November 3rd. Peter Flaherty, President of The
NLPC alleges that Combs and his non-profit,
Citizen Change,
may have violated the Federal Election Campaign
Act (FECA) and the Internal Revenue Service
Code, when he rallied support for John Kerry and
called for the defeat of President George W.
Bush during last year's presidential election.
Citizen Change purported to promote voter
mobilization, consistent with the activities of
a nonprofit organization, but engaged in
prohibited electioneering activities. The
Complaint cites Citizen Change rallies where
speakers called for the election of Kerry and
the defeat of Bush, including an event on
October 26, 2004 at Wayne State University where
actor Leonardo DiCaprio urged the crowd to vote
for Kerry, as did Detroit mayor Kwame
Kilpatrick.
