Making the Band 3 Season II
Rap mogul Diddy is known for his
perfectionist ways, so it shouldn't be a surprise
that he seems to hold others to his same
ultra-high standards. As fans of MTV's "Making the
Band 3" are aware, the artist formerly known as
Puff Daddy rejected nearly all of the girls
selected as finalists by his crew of judges -
talent manager Johnny Wright, choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson and vocal coach Doc
Holliday. Then he summoned the team to start
more auditions for the proposed all-girl group.
According to Wright, as much as the girls are on
the spot, the judges are on the spot, "making sure
we step up our game ... Diddy even brought in
another player this time, Andre Harrell,
who gave him his first job in the music business."
Despite the pressure, Wright, who manages the
likes of Justin Timberlake and the
Backstreet Boys, says he'd work with Diddy any
day. "I love that he's a perfectionist and a hard
worker." However, "sometimes when you're a part of
something where you seem to be doing all the work,
there's a little frustration to it, but it's our
challenge as judges to keep up with him. He's only
going to put his name on something that's the
best, so when you present that to the world, it
makes us all shine, and you can't be mad about
that." (L.A.

Laurie-Ann Gibson
Laurie Ann is one of the most sought after
choreographers in the entertainment industry. She
has more than three-dozen videos and televised
shows under her belt; Laurie Ann is the driving
force behind some of the most successful artists
today. She and her work can be seen on television,
concert tours, award ceremonies, music videos and
film. Through her dedication,
unique style and
skill, she has helped transform artists such as P.
Diddy, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Brandy and JoJo
into superstars.
Laurie Ann was born and raised in Toronto,
Ontario. At age 17 she boarded a Greyhound bus
with about one month's rent in her pocket and
headed for New York City. That's where Laurie
found the world of theatre while training with the
famed Alvin Ailey dance company. She then made a
segue into the world of hip hop, first with a
successful run as a "Fly Girl" in the popular
television series "in Living Color", and then as
Director of Choreography for Motown and Bad Boy
Records. Blending hip hop with her extensive
training, Laurie Ann has been instrumental in
coming up with the next level of hip hop dance.
Last year, in addition to working with stars such
as Alicia Keys, Dido and Mario, Laurie
choreographed the Universal feature film, HONEY,
starring Jessica Alba & Li'l Romeo. Similar to
Laurie Ann's life, the film centers on the life of
a tough city girl (Alba) who dreams of opening a
dance studio. She also appeared onscreen as "Catrina,"
Honey's nemesis. Director and writer Bille
Woodruff explains that "Laurie Ann is not only the
choreographer, but serves as a reference point for
the lead character because she is very much
Honey."
