A interesting piece from the Slate.. On Bridgeport Music Inc. suing artist for sampling, which is a industry norm in hip-hop.. It turns out the same company, sued over the Notorious B.I.G. album Ready to Die for illegal sampling, the album later pulled from shelves. The company was later awarded over 4 million in damages..
Last week, a mysterious company, Bridgeport Music Inc., sued hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, accusing him of breaking the law when he recorded his 2003 single "Justify My Thug." The song is an obvious nod to Madonna's "Justify My Love," but she is not the plaintiff. Instead, Bridgeport is suing because Jay-Z did something that is normal in hip-hop: sampling. He took a few notes, looped them in the background, and produced the tune. Bridgeport claims to own those notes, and is demanding a fortune in damages and a permanent ban on the distribution of the song. Bridgeport is an unwelcome addition to the music world: the "sample troll." Similar to its cousins the patent trolls, Bridgeport and companies like it hold portfolios of old rights (sometimes accumulated in dubious fashion) and use lawsuits to extort money from successful music artists for routine sampling, no matter how minimal or unnoticeable.
March of this year, Bridgeport cashed in. It convinced a court to enjoin the sales of the best-selling Notorious B.I.G. album Ready to Die for illegal sampling. A jury awarded Bridgeport more than $4 million in damages.

Russell 'Block' Spencer on partnering with Bad Boy South
"As the South market grew, Diddy and Bad Boy realized they needed to be involved. I was looking to take the music we make in the South to another level, and the collaboration between Block Enterprises and Bad Boy South was the perfect avenue for both of our companies. Look at the success we have already attained. When the machine is working successfully, you don't look to fix it, but to add to it to make it better. The renewal of our deal is going to make the Block/Bad Boy South partnership even bigger," added Block.
Hopefully now with a renewed deal between Block Entertainment and Bad Boy South, this continuing partnership will continue to produce a good product.
Diddy made a grand entry like he can only on "The Tyra Banks Show," from TMZ.com...
Diddy kicked his outrageousness up a notch on "Tyra," arriving at the studio via helicopter! It doesn't end there -- the rooftop was decked out with a red carpet, a manservant bearing water, ladies-in-waiting and a mic to rock. You know, subtle.
While appearing on the Tyra Banks show, P Diddy received a proposal from a 17-year old audience member. Combs replied, "I'm not ready to get married." Combs, and his long-time girlfriend are expecting twin daughters.
The 17-year-old was stunned when Diddy burst through a poster of his face on the show, but she left the rapper, real name SEAN COMBS, lost for words when she had a special question for him. She said, "I have one question for you, 'Would you marry me?" Shocked Diddy paused and then replied, "I'm not ready to get married." The keen teen responded quickly, "You will be in one year and 22 days - I'll be 18." Irene had the studio audience whooping when she said, "She's nothing like me," when her hero tried to explain he already has a girlfriend - pregnant KIM PORTER. -- Contact Music

Kim Porter is interviewed in the 2006 December Essence Magazine, alongside with her boyfriend Sean "Diddy" Combs.. They touch a couple subjects, but most significantly Puffy and J-Lo..
From EURWEB... At the time, Porter and Combs were living together. But as soon as she caught wind of the Lopez affair, Porter kicked her man out ("of my own house," Diddy points out indignantly) and changed the locks.
"I told him someone's got to go, and it isn't going to be me and these kids," she remembers.
Combs moved into a hotel but ignored Porter's wishes to be left alone, continuing to stop by the house whenever he pleased.
"It was like my life was not my own," says Porter. "He was very, very intrusive."
The couple would eventually end up in the Manhattan Family Courthouse to hash out a visitation agreement, which Combs admits he did not stick to.
"He would say he needed to see his son, but I was at a place where just the sight of him would turn my stomach," Porter recalls. "My feeling was, you made this decision, now stay over there. I can't repeat everything I said at the time, because it's really not that ladylike. But I was very expressive about it."
In fact, she reluctantly admits that one day she got so angry she threw a television at Combs. "It was a small one," she says.
