Kyle Petty, Bobby Labonte
Dec. 21, 2005:
Parrott and Labonte test at Kentucky: Crew
chief Todd Parrott and driver Bobby Labonte ushered in a
new era for the storied Petty Enterprises No. 43 NEXTEL
Cup Series car with a test at Kentucky Speedway today.
Labonte, the 2000 series champion who finished 24th in
the 2005 standings with Joe Gibbs Racing, and Parrott,
who helped Dale Jarrett win the 1999 series title with
Robert Yates Racing, will join new Exec. VP of
Operations Robbie Loomis, who guided Jeff Gordon to 23
wins and the 2001 championship with Hendrick
Motorsports, in an attempt to rejuvenate a Petty program
that hasn't scored a series race win since Loomis last
worked there in 1999. Temperatures in the low to mid 20s
didn't curb the enthusiasm both crew chief and driver
expressed for their new project during their first test
together. The new team agreed that the focus of the
one-day test was to begin to establish solid team
communications. "It's different," Labonte said. "I was
kind of jittery at first because it's been 11 years
since I've had anything like this go on. It's a little
too cold here for me, but, so far, so good. "I'm just
real excited to work with Todd and all these guys.
Hopefully, I understand Todd and when I talk, he can
understand the language I'm talking. For us, today is
about getting a feel for everybody and everybody getting
a feel for Todd. He's the main character here that
everyone will have to look up to. When I'm on the
racetrack, they've got to know what to do next and he's
the guy leading them." Parrott was encouraged by his
team's early results. "Not to say that we're not looking
for great success right off the bat, but I'm throwing
things at him, he's feeling it and that's good. Just
from some things he's said this morning, I think it's
going to be a great year." Both veterans also spoke
about the reasons behind their respective moves to Petty
Enterprises. "I just thought that I needed something
different at Gibbs," Labonte said. "Those people treated
me great and I had a great time there, but I felt like a
change was needed. The Petty operation is very similar
in that the people are real sincere. I felt like I could
fit in here, kind of like when I went to Gibbs. I had
some other opportunities, and they were awesome, but
this is the No. 43. When I put my heart to it in terms
of my family and myself, I felt like this was the place
I'd like to be. "Robbie was the first domino that fell
into place here and that attracted me because I know his
leadership will be a plus. Then, we were able to get
Todd. What a no-brainer that was. I guess it goes to
show you that the Pettys weren't happy with just sitting
there after the way they've run the past couple years."

Petty Driving Experience at Iowa Track: The
Richard Petty Driving Experience (RPDE) has just
announced they will be visiting the brand new Iowa
Speedway next summer. The visit will mark the first time
RPDE has been to Iowa and the first time a driving
program has been offered at the new facility. The

mock qualifying run and/or drive themselves around the
speedway in 3 different programs to be offered; the 8
lap Rookie Experience, the 18 lap Kings Experience and a
30 lap Experience of a Lifetime program. "We are really
excited about bringing our programs to that part of the
country", says seven-time NASCAR Champion Richard Petty,
who hopes to be on hand as well for the debut. "The
sport continues to grow so fast out in middle-America
and I think the fans are hungry to see what it feels
like to be behind the wheel of a real stock car." Costs
will range from the $99 Ride-Along up to the $1,249
Experience of a Lifetime. Richard Petty Driving
Experience, headquartered Concord, N.C., will operate
more than 1,100 track days at more than 20 locations

Dec.. 7, 2005:
Parrott named Bobby Labonte's Crew Chief: Nextel Cup
Series champion Todd Parrott has been named crew chief
for the #43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge team and driver
Bobby Labonte. Robbie Loomis, Executive Vice President
of Operations and a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series champion
himself, made the announcement. "While few can match him
in knowledge and strategy, no one can match Todd Parrott
when it comes to the desire to win," Loomis said.
"Working together with Paul Andrews (crew chief for Kyle
Petty's #45 Dodge and a former NASCAR Nextel Cup Series
champion) and the talent we have here, we feel we have
the ingredients to return Petty Enterprises to victory
lane." Greg Steadman, who had been serving as crew chief
for the #43, has been named Competition Director for
Petty Enterprises and is involved with both race teams.
"I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to be a part
of Petty Enterprises," Parrott said. "I've been a fan of
Richard Petty since I could talk, and one of the most
exciting times of my life is when my dad (Buddy Parrott)
was crew chief for Richard. When I see the people who
are coming into the organization and how hard everyone
is working to get Petty Enterprises back to the top, I
can't help but be excited to be a part of that," Parrott
continued. "Robbie Loomis, Bobby Labonte . . . these
guys are coming here for one reason, and that's to win."
Parrott, 41, is a native of Charlotte, N.C. Winner of
the 1999 NASCAR Nextel Cup championship with driver Dale
Jarrett, Parrott begins his 12th year as a leader of
NASCAR race teams in 2006. He grew up in the sport and
began working on race cars when just 14 years old,
developing into one of the top mechanical and
strategy-minded names in motorsports. (Williams

Dec. 1, 2005:
Petty
to leaves NSL: Richard Petty Driving Experience
announced that it has withdrawn its support of the
National SprintCar League effective immediately. "We
formed this series with the intention of rebuilding and
growing winged sprint car racing," said Kyle Petty. "We
had a clear vision about how to undertake this.
Unfortunately, our vision for the future of sprint car
racing was not shared by all of the key stakeholders in
the sport. We believe that a prolonged battle over
control of the sport is not in the best interest of
anyone involved. Hopefully, by stepping aside at this
point, there is time for a common vision to emerge. We
still believe that sprint car racing can thrive in the
United States and we hope that the tracks, drivers,
teams and sanctioning bodies will put their individual
interests aside and work towards some common ground to
unify this great motor sports platform. We appreciate
everyone who supported us in this endeavor." (Williams

Nov. 22, 2005:
Kyle Petty Nominated SI Sportsman Of Year:
Kyle Petty has become the first stock car driver
nominated for one of the most prestigious honors in
athletics. The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver is up for
Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsman Of The Year” honor,
which the national magazine has awarded since miler
Roger Bannister won the first in 1955. Others such as
the Boston Red Sox, Tiger Woods, Arthur Ashe, Jack
Nicklaus, Muhammad Ali and Pete Rozelle have won it.
Others nominated this year include cyclist Lance
Armstrong, NBA star Reggie Miller, and World Series star
Scott Posednik, among others. Writer Lars Anderson, in
making his argument in nominating Petty, noted mostly
his and wife Pattie’s leadership of the Victory Junction
Gang Camp. “Put simply,” Anderson wrote, “he’s got the
biggest heart in American sports today. “Kyle Petty as
Sportsman of the Year? Take a look at those beaming kids
and tell me he’s not.” The winner will be announced next
month. (Williams Co., Of America, Inc.)

Ellen takes a ride in Petty driving experience:
Talk Show Host Ellen DeGeneres took to the speedway in
southern California to quell her need for speed and to
see what NASCAR is all about. DeGeneres, host of the
popular daytime TV talk show, "The Ellen DeGeneres
Show", was a recent guest of Richard Petty Driving
Experience at California Speedway and had the
opportunity to ride in and drive an actual NASCAR style
stock car. "It was thrilling! I haven't been on a
roller-coaster or anything like this for years," said
DeGeneres. "So with this kind of excitement, I was like
a kid in there. I think we have the traffic problem in
Los Angeles solved, though. I had clear sailing all day
and only saw one other car out there the whole time."
Her visit to the speedway came as a surprise to the
other guests there on Friday. Other participants were
told of an impending guest but voted to have it kept a
secret until the last second. "We were really excited to
see her come through the door," said Brent Swain, a
first-timer from Coronado, CA. "She had us cracking up
the whole time and made the day truly memorable. It's
not everyday you get to live out your own dream and do
it alongside a celebrity like Ellen." "The Ellen
DeGeneres Show" is nationally syndicated throughout the
country and the episode featuring Ellen at Richard Petty
Driving Experience will air on Monday, November 14,
2006. Check local listings for exact times or visit

Nov. 11, 2005:
B. Labonte to Petty's Officially: Bobby Labonte,
2000 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series champion, will drive the
#43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge beginning with the 2006
season, it was announced this morning by Robbie Loomis,
Executive Vice President of Operations, Petty
Enterprises. Labonte, 41, joins Petty Enterprises from
Joe Gibbs Racing where he won 21 Cup races and the 2000
NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship during his 10-year
stretch with the team. He will be a teammate to Kyle
Petty, and will also work first-hand with Loomis, who is
rejoining the organization after a successful
championship-winning stint at Hendrick Motorsports.
"Winning in our sport is a learned process," said
Loomis. "The heritage of Petty Enterprises, coupled with
a talented, successful driver like Bobby Labonte, will
lead to some great things. There's a lot of work to be
done, but we have some tremendous tools here and we're
excited about the future." "We're bringing some serious
firepower to the #43 Cheerios Dodge next year and I am
excited about having Bobby Labonte as a teammate," Kyle
Petty said. "Bobby knows how to win races and how to win
championships, as does Robbie Loomis." "I'm really
pleased to be part of Petty Enterprises," Labonte said.
"When I first came into this sport, my heroes were Terry
Labonte and Richard Petty. To have the opportunity to
drive Richard Petty's #43 car is something I could not
have imagined growing up. The #43 knows its way to
victory lane, and we'll get it back there. I am looking
forward to working with Robbie, Kyle, The King and the
entire Petty team. And, I'm excited about working with
households names like Cheerios and Betty Crocker, along
with the entire General Mills team. I had a great run at
Joe Gibbs Racing, and have the utmost respect for that
organization and appreciate all they did for me. I am
fortunate to be going to another high quality
organization in Petty Enterprises," Labonte said. "Just
like Cheerios and Betty Crocker, Bobby Labonte is
committed to winning, to family and to community," added
General Mills Vice President Laurie Greeno. "We at
General Mills are thrilled to have Bobby join the #43
team." (Williams

B. Labonte to 43: On Friday, November
10th at Phoenix International Raceway, Petty Enterprises
will announce that Nextel Cup champion, Bobby Labonte,
will drive the #43 Cheerios / Betty Crocker Dodge in
2006. Labonte won the NEXTEL Cup championship in 2000
driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, has 21 career NEXTEL Cup
victories and claimed the NASCAR Busch Series
Championship in 1991. Labonte started racing quarter
midgets at the age of five in his hometown of Corpus
Christi, TX. His brother is NASCAR champion Terry
Labonte.
Oct. 31, 2005:
So where does Labonte go?
Oct. 29, 2005:
Labonte to Petty #43? Bobby Labonte
apparently is on the short list of "proven winners"
NASCAR legend Richard Petty plans to consider as driver
of the famed No. 43 beginning in 2006. Labonte, the 2000
Nextel Cup champion, has a contract with Joe Gibbs
Racing that runs through 2008. But a source said Friday
that Labonte had informed some crewmen two weeks ago
that he would not be returning to the No. 18 Chevrolet
in 2006. Labonte has driven for Gibbs' organization
since 1995, scoring all 21 of his Cup victories with the
team owned by the coach of the NFL's Washington
Redskins. But Labonte, 41, is winless since November
2003 -- a span of 68 races heading into Sunday's Bass
Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He
qualified 38th in the 43-car field Friday. Labonte is
24th in points and has failed to qualify for the first
two editions of the Chase for the Nextel Cup. A team
spokesman said Labonte has been "noncommittal" about his
plans for next season. The source added that though
Labonte respects Gibbs and his organization, he wants a
change of scenery. (Star-Telegram)

Green looks to leave Petty: Petty Enterprises
CEO Kyle Petty confirmed Jeff Green likely will leave
the team's famous No. 43 Dodge to replace Mike Bliss in
the No. 0 Chevrolet in 2006. Petty said the team has
"two-thirds" of the 2006 sponsorship needed for his No.
45 Dodge, which is losing Georgia Pacific, and is
extremely confident of landing the funding for the car.

Loomis to take couple weeks off before joining
Petty Enterprise, credit Richard: Robbie
Loomis, Jeff Gordon's former crew chief, will take two
weeks off after the Nextel Cup season before moving to
Petty Enterprises to become vice president of race
operations. Loomis, who has been Gordon's crew chief
since the middle of the 2000 Winston Cup season, stepped
down last month after Gordon did not qualify for the
Chase for the Nextel Cup championship. He is staying on
as a consultant for Gordon and car owner Rick Hendrick
until the season ends. 'Right now, I'm able to take a
step back and look at things a little differently, and
that's really good,' Loomis said Friday after a practice
session for Sunday's race at Kansas Speedway. 'The
on-track stuff I'm concentrating on is all with the
Hendrick team, but I can think a little bit about the
big-picture stuff with the Pettys.' At a sponsor's event
Wednesday in Overland Park, Kan., Kyle Petty said he was
happy to let Loomis set the timetable for the switch -
and credited his father with making it happen. 'Kyle
Petty didn't steal Robbie back from Jeff,' he said.

Sep. 23, 2005:
Stewart and Pettys among those starting Sprint
Car League: Sprint car racing's biggest names have
split into two separate series for 2006, drivers
confirmed Wednesday. The World of Outlaws, owned by DIRT
Motorsports, will retain five of its 18 full-time
drivers — Altoona's Terry McCarl, Craig Dollansky,
Brooke Tatnell, Daryn Pittman and Donny Schatz — and
plans to add more for 2006. "I'm a loyal person," said
McCarl, who stands 11th in Outlaws points this season.
"This group didn't offer any reason to leave them."
Danny Lasoski, who drives for Tony Stewart Motorsports,
represents one of 13 current Outlaws teams who have
signed with the National Sprintcar League for the 2006
season. The group is backed by Petty Enterprises and has
lured drivers such as Steve and Kraig Kinser, Jason
Meyers and Tim Shaffer. Lasoski's concerns with DIRT
included the lack of live television - Outlaws events
air on the Outdoor Channel on a tape-delayed basis. He
expects the Petty organization to rectify that
situation, although no TV package is set yet. He added
that NASCAR names such as Stewart, Kasey Kahne, the
Pettys and Dave Blaney would field cars in the National
Sprintcar League next season. (Des

Sep. 17, 2005:
Petty sits out qualifying and practice: Still
fighting feelings of grief from his son's death at New
Hampshire International Speedway more than five years
ago, Kyle Petty will skip Friday's practice sessions and
Saturday's qualifying at the track. Petty still plans to
race on Sunday. "It's a funny thing, because I thought
the longer I went, the easier it would get," Petty said
in a telephone interview. "The truth is, the longer it
goes, the harder it gets." Adam Petty was killed in an
accident during a practice session at New Hampshire
International Speedway in May 2000. NASCAR officials
determined that he died of a neck injury, the same
injury that would kill Dale Earnhardt nine months later.
Petty has raced at New Hampshire several times since the
accident, but it hasn't made him any more at ease there.
He said the most recent race weekend at New Hampshire,
in July, was particularly tough. (USA

Sep. 15, 2005:
Loomis to join Petty Enterprises: Kyle
Petty, CEO of Petty Enterprises, today announced the
organization’s addition of championship-winning crew
chief Robbie Loomis as executive vice president of race
operations. In his new role, Loomis will head the
day-to-day operations of Level Cross-based Petty
Enterprises and its two full-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup
Series teams -- the No. 43 Dodges driven by Jeff Green
and the No. 45 Dodges piloted by Petty. “We are excited
that Robbie will be rejoining Petty Enterprises,” Petty
said. “Robbie won races as a crew chief here, and then
won a lot of races and a championship with Jeff Gordon
and Hendrick Motorsports. We have great respect for the
entire Hendrick organization, and know that Robbie’s
experience with the Hendrick team has prepared him well
for the role he will take on at Petty Enterprises.
“Robbie Loomis will direct our entire race operation,
and we expect his experience and his ability to mold a
team to help us get to the next level. Robbie has been a
part of our family for a long time, and we’re happy to
have him come home.” Loomis, 41, will leave his position
as crew chief of Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 24
Chevrolets. Before joining Petty, the Forest City, Fla.,
native will work as a consultant to Concord-based
Hendrick as the operation pursues the 2005 NEXTEL Cup
championship with the No. 48 Chevrolets. “We still have
a job to do,” said Loomis, who won a Cup title with
driver Jeff Gordon in 2001 after coming to Hendrick from
Petty Enterprises in 2000. “Our goal is winning that
championship with Jimmie (Johnson), Chad (Knaus) and the
No. 48 team. I’m here to support them in any way I
possibly can. (Williams

Petty hints at retirement? But both Green and
Petty Back in 2006: Kyle Petty hinted that he may
soon join the exodus of veteran NASCAR drivers because
of the growing time demands. "No 9-year-old kid dreams
about someday signing autographs at Target," Petty said.
"One day I'm going to wake up and decide to get on my
motorcycle and go riding around the country. It's
getting close. Maybe next year. Who knows?" Petty, 45,
has not won since the summer of 1995, a string of 313
races. His famous father Richard won a record 200 times.
Petty Enterprises also fields the No. 43 driven by
former Fairgrounds Speedway champion Jeff Green. Petty
said Green will be back in the car next season. (Tennessean)

Kyle Petty On CNN's "Larry King Live" Monday
Night: Kyle Petty, driver of the #45
Georgia-Pacific/Brawny Dodge will be a live guest on
Larry King Live on CNN Monday night, August 15. Petty
will be joined by Jeff Gordon and host Larry King on
CNN’s most watched program at 9:00 p.m. (EDT), and will
discuss NASCAR racing, as well as his work with the
Victory Junction Gang Camp and the Chick-fil-A Kyle
Petty Charity Ride. Those were featured in Newsweek
magazine a few weeks ago, as well as in national media
across the country. Petty Enterprises is no stranger to
national media such as Larry King Live and CNN. Kyle and
his father, Richard Petty, have been interviewed
numerous times by the national cable network, as well as
on every national broadcast network. (The Williams Co.,

July 22, 2005
Kyle Petty Charity Ride Kicks Off: “This is our 11th
year, and obviously, it’s the Chick-fil-A® Kyle Petty
Charity Ride now. We’re excited about this year because, in
the past, when we’ve run the charity ride we’ve had to go
from either San Francisco or from Southern California and
we’ve left according to the race schedule. We just basically
left after the race and would ride motorcycles back to North
Carolina. That’s how simple the charity ride really is. We’d
stop at a few Children’s Hospitals along the way, and we
used to end up at our farm with a concert. But now, all of
that has kind of changed. When the schedule changed this
year, we really didn’t have an open week after any of the
California races. So, it kind of put us in a bind, since
we’re running from Pocono and the Charity ride is leaving
from Portland, Ore. So, basically, what we’re going to do is
we’re going to leave when the race is over with and fly out
and meet everybody out in Idaho Falls. They leave on
Saturday when we’re in Pocono, they leave Portland and they
go to Boise (Idaho), and from Boise to Idaho Falls (Idaho),
Sunday night. And that’s where we meet with them. Then on
Monday we ride from Idaho falls to Cody (Wyo.) and then from
Cody, Wyo., to Deadwood, S.D., and then from Deadwood to
Sioux Falls, S.D., and then from Sioux Falls to Burlington,
Iowa., and then from Iowa on into Louisville, Ky., and then
from Louisville to Knoxville, (Tenn.) and from Knoxville
back to the Victory Junction Gang Camp. It ends up being a
nine day ride because we end up Saturday and Sunday, while
we’re racing they’re riding, but for all of us it ends up
being a seven day ride. We’re pretty excited about this year
because we’re coming through parts of the country up in
Wyoming and South Dakota and parts of Iowa and Minnesota
that we’ve never been through before on the Charity Ride.
So, we’re hitting a different part of the country this
year.” (Williams Company PR)

Petty Enterprises Changes in 2006, GP no longer primary
sponsor: Petty Enterprises has announced plans to
restructure its primary sponsorship of the #45 Dodge driven
by Kyle Petty in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series beginning in
2006. The change is part of a broader initiative that will
be announced in more detail in the coming months and will
involve multiple corporate partners. “We’re excited with the
possibilities of working with new sponsors and structuring
our program to allow for our partners to share the assets of
the #45 car throughout the season,” said Kyle Petty, CEO of
Petty Enterprises. “Although they will no longer be our
primary sponsor, Georgia-Pacific and its Brawny brand has
been a great partner for Petty Enterprises and for me
personally. They have been supporting us since the mid ‘90s
with our Craftsman Series truck program, and have been a
valuable part of not only the racing team but the Charity
Ride Across America and the Victory Junction Gang Camp as
well.” In the course of discussing the coming years
and evaluating the long-term objectives of the racing team,
Petty Enterprises envisions a different kind of sponsorship
model. In elaborating on the plans for 2006 and beyond,
Petty stated that “… next year our program will provide us
with the opportunity to leverage several promotional tie-ins
and other marketing elements with a select group of
complementary partners working together to do some pretty
cool stuff. Because we will have multiple partners, the
entry point dollar-wise for this program is significantly
below what companies are paying to be full-time primary
sponsors. We’ve had great reaction to this program already
and we think it is an exciting way to be involved in our
racing platform. We look forward to presenting this
strategic marketing platform to potential partners/sponsors
who are interested in being involved in a unique Nextel Cup
marketing program.” (Williams Company)

Petty and Jones Scuffle: Postrace tensions boiled
over once again at Infineon. After the race concluded, an
irate Kyle Petty tried going after P.J. Jones in the garage
area, presumably over a collision that took place at turn 11
midway through the race. Legendary driver Richard Petty,
Kyle's father, reportedly had to step between the two to
help break it up. After the 2004 race, Tony Stewart tried
attacking Brian Vickers in the garage area while Vickers was
still in his car.

Petty Enterprise sends cars to German Win Tunnel: As
the ever-expanding engineering and technical side of NASCAR
Nextel Cup racing continues to grow, Petty Enterprises took
a huge step to the forefront of wind tunnel testing this
week. Accepting an invitation from Dodge Motorsports, Petty
Enterprises spent this week in Stuttgart, Germany, at one of
the world's state-of-the-art wind tunnels. The wind tunnel
in Stuttgart, Germany is equipped with a rare and unique
"Rolling Road" wind tunnel system. Cars travel on a belt and
can simulate different pitches and angles. Used by Mercedes,
Petty Enterprises hopes the facility will provide them with
unmatched information. "The 'Rolling Road' wind tunnel can
actually give us better, more realistic data comparable to
on-track conditions," stated Petty Enterprises General
Manager Jerry Freeze. "We're hoping to use this data and
compare it to the 'static' wind tunnels we use here in the
States." (ThatsRacin)

Petty Rips Harvick: Count Kyle Petty as
another driver who isn't ready to sing "Kumbaya" with Kevin
Harvick, who instigated Thursday's big crash after
"bump-drafting" Jimmie Johnson along a turn. The dicey
strategy involves a trailing car bumping the car ahead of
it. "It is absolutely, positively idiotic," Petty said. "At
180 mph, whether you're running in a straight line or you're
running in the corner, you shouldn't be running into people.
We should be better drivers than to run into each other.
Let's go back 10-15-20 years; who heard of bump drafting?
People raced each other clean." (Orlando

Richard Petty Honored: Seven-time Daytona 500 winner
Richard Petty was the first driver inaugurated into the
Goodyear Legends of Daytona, new attraction in the Nextel
Fanzone that honors stock car, sports car and motorcycle
racers for their accomplishments at Daytona. Petty said some
of the aggressive driving of today can be attributed to the
increasing pressure put on drivers to perform quickly or
risk losing their rides. “You’ve got a lot of young drivers
coming in and they’re getting a lot of pressure on them
real, real, quick,” Petty said. “In their minds, they got to
get the job done today. They get overaggressive just because
of the pressure put on them. And a lot of times, if it’s not
put on ‘em, they put it on themselves.” (Speed)
